We Can Do Ittttttt!
We CAN do it. CardNation after weeks and weeks of hearing about Pitino should be fired, or this team sucks, one thing is for sure, I have been right all along. lol. After every up and every down, I reassured you guys that we were gonna be just fine and if we played in the NCAA’s like we did in the Big East tourney, we would go far. Just take time and read all of my blogs today to see what all has come out of my mouth that’s been right. Well enough about me…on to the main event….Our epic showdown with uk.
This is the release from UofLsports.com:
The University of Louisville has received a supply of tickets for its appearance in the 2012 NCAA Final Four at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, La.
We are just a few hours away from tip-off, and the excitement is evident amongst Cards fans. A win over Florida, and UofL advances to the Final Four! We are so close that we can feel it. However, it will not be easy.
As soon as the brackets were announced on Selection Sunday, Cards fans realized that we could possibly face Michigan State. This was a big deal because when UofL was the overall #1 seed in 2008-2009, it was the Spartans that eliminated the Cards. Sure, California and Morehead State have eliminated UofL the last 2 seasons, but the Michigan State one stuck out more, because that was supposed to be our year. We won the Big East regular season, the Big East Tournament, and were primed for a Final Four run. Last night, it was time for revenge…
*Men’s Basketball- The Cards will face Michigan State this Thursday in the Sweet 16. Tip is set for 7:47 ET and the game will be shown on TBS. Should the Cards advance, they will face the winner of Marquette/Florida on Saturday.
*Women’s Basketball- The NCAA Tournament continues tonight for the 7th seeded Lady Cards. In their 2nd round game, they will face 2nd seeded (and host) Maryland. The game will tip at 7:10 ET and will be on ESPN 2. Coach Jeff Walz was an assistant coach at Maryland before coming to UofL to become the Head Coach.
*Football- There will be 3 open practices this week for the fans to go out and see the team. On Wednesday and Friday, practice will be at 4 pm. On Saturday, it will be at 10 am. It is still basketball season in the ‘Ville, but go ahead and go check out the football team!
*Men’s Soccer- UofL alum Nick DeLeon scored his first MLS goal yesterday for DC United. Pretty good MLS debut!
*UofL Designs- Don’t forget to check out our “UofL Designs” tab at the top of the page. Adam Lucas comes up with some great work, so be sure to check out his website also.
It was close for a half, the Cards led by 15, and it got close again. It was a typical UofL Basketball game tonight. Facing New Mexico (28-7) with a chance to go to the Sweet 16, the Cardinals (28-9) outlasted the Lobos 59-56 at the Rose Garden in Portland, OR.
Russ Smith led the Cards with 17 points and went 3-3 from behind the arc; Kyle Kuric added 10 points; Peyton Siva had 6 points and 6 assists, with 2 of those points and 1 of those assists coming in clutch situations at the end of the game; Gorgui Dieng had 6 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks; Chane Behanan had 10 points on 5-7 shooting; and Chris Smith had 8 points.
UofL had a great defensive game. They held the Lobos to 5-23 (21.7%) from 3 point range. Also, New Mexico was averaging over 70 points per game and were held to 56.
The Cards will face the winner of the Michigan State/St. Louis game. That will be played on Sunday at 2:45 on CBS.

On Thursday morning, Coach Charlie Strong and his staff took two busses full of football players up to Henryville, IN to help clean up from the tornadoes that hit last Friday. It was a great act for them to go help out people in need, and it just shows what kind of character that this coaching staff is teaching these young men. We could not be prouder of the staff and the team!
