21. Utah Jazz (via Warriors): Gorgui Dieng, C, Louisville

With both Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap headed for free agency this summer, the Jazz need to think about adding some depth (and competition) behind Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter. I’m a fan of Gorgui Dieng, and I think he could go earlier than this, but if he drops here, he’s a strong pick for Utah. His shot-blocking skills, rebounding ability and improved offensive game could make him a solid pro.

(Baseball America press release)

DURHAM, N.C.—Vanderbilt set a Southeastern Conference record with 26 league wins after winning a series against Alabama, and the Commodores remain No. 1 in the Baseball America College Top 25 rankings for the second straight week.

After seven straight weeks at No. 4, Cal State Fullerton moved up to No. 3 thanks to a sweep of UC Irvine that clinched the Big West Conference title. Oregon State and Virginia also moved into the top five for winning series on the road against Oregon and North Carolina, respectively. The Tar Heels, who had been No. 1 all season until last week, did clinch the Atlantic Coast Conference’s regular-season title but fell to No. 6 in the rankings after losing their second straight series.

Mississippi State made the biggest move of the week, climbing eight spots to No. 16 after winning a series against South Carolina, making the Bulldogs the third SEC team to reach the 40-win mark. Just in front of Mississippi State, Kansas State made a four-spot climb to No. 15 for taking two of three from Oklahoma, earning the Wildcats the Big 12 Conference’s regular-season crown.

Three teams make their season debuts in the rankings this week. Seton Hall finished in second place in the Big East Conference and checks in at No. 22. Troy took a series from South Alabama to earn a split of the Sun Belt Conference title and enter the rankings at No. 23, while Mercer won the Atlantic Sun Conference and debuts at No. 25. Mercer is in the Top 25 for the first time ever.

The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are through games of May 19 and do not include ties.

Press Release from Assistant Sports Information Director Garett Wall:

Last Saturday, Louisville clinched sole possession of the 2013 BIG EAST Conference regular season championship and won its 16th straight game overall with a 7-4 triumph over No. 16 Pittsburgh at Jim Patterson Stadium. Matching the school record for regular season wins first set in 2010, the Cardinals improved to 46-10 overall and finished with a 20-4 conference mark. The 16-game winning streak for UofL is the longest active streak in the nation and is the second longest in school history.

With their fourth BIG EAST regular season title in five seasons, Louisville will be the No. 1 seed in this week’s BIG EAST Championship at Bright House Field. The Cardinals will open the double-elimination tournament on Wednesday at 5 p.m., ET against No. 8 seed Connecticut. Also on Louisville’s side of the bracket will be a first round matchup featuring No. 4 USF against No. 5 Rutgers on Wednesday at 8 p.m., while the other first round matchups include No. 3 Pittsburgh vs. No. 6 St. John’s at 10 a.m., and No. 2 Seton Hall vs. No. 7 Notre Dame at 1 p.m.

Detric Dukes is a linebacker from Atlanta, Georgia’s Tucker High School. He committed to the Cards back on April 15, soon after being in town for the spring game. We caught up with him to ask some questions about his high school team, his latest college offer, and more…

CSZ: What made you choose UofL?

Dukes: What made me commit was the family feeling. The coaches and players are really close. The coaching staff really cares about their players. I just can’t wait to get up there and be apart of the family.

CSZ: You have some pretty impressive offers. Auburn has offered a scholarship and Ohio State recently did as well. Do those matter now, or is it 100% to Louisville?

Dukes: It’s a 100% Louisville.

CSZ: What did you think of the Cards beating Florida in the Sugar Bowl?

Dukes: Well I wasn’t shocked. I knew what we had.

CSZ: Love that answer!

You wanna mess with this guy???

CSZ: So you were in town for the Spring Game this year. What did you think?

Dukes: The city is great, the fans are loyal, and the stadium is nice!

CSZ: Are you excited about playing in the ACC when you get to Louisville?

Dukes: I’m very excited. I’m ready to compete.

CSZ: What are your expectations for your senior season at Tucker High School?

Dukes: We’re looking good; state champs!

CSZ: Here are some random questions. Who are your 5 favorite musical artists?

Dukes: Chief Keef, Rich Homie Quan, Wiz Khalifa, Lil’ Wayne, Miguel

CSZ: Favorite food?

Dukes: I love to eat steak.

CSZ: Favorite NFL team and player?

Dukes: Miami Dolphins and favorite player was Ray Lewis.

CSZ: We appreciate Detric taking the time to talk with us! We will keep up with him this season and keep you updated on how he is doing! Follow Detric on twitter @DetricDukes

The Cards picked up commitment number 14 for the class of 2014 when Union County High School (Union, SC) wide receiver/cornerback T.J. Foster committed to Charlie Strong and staff. He is listed at 6’3 and 180 lbs. A 6’3 wide receiver or cornerback is a weapon for sure.

Foster’s commitment to the Cards could be bigger than some people think. He is from South Carolina, which is right in the heart of ACC country. Currently, Louisville only has 1 player on the roster from South Carolina, and that is redshirt freshman CB Devontre Parnell. If Foster can come in and make an impact, that could open up another territory for Coach Strong and his staff to get into because other players from the area will take notice.

One reason you may not know much about Foster yet? He has only played 1 year of high school football! If that 1 year was enough for Strong to offer a scholarship, then I am on board with that decision!

Here is his highlight video from last season. Follow him on twitter @tjfoster2
