Swimming & Diving Make Big Splashes Wednesday

On Wednesday some pretty big news came from the Louisville Swimming and Diving program. Actually 2 big things happened.  Head coach Arthur Albiero announced the addition of Venezuelan National Record Holder, Carlos Claverie, to the fall 2014 recruiting class. Claverie will join Todd Owen, Thomas Cooper, and Jonathan Zoucha in this class. Claverie represented his home country at the 2011 Pan-American Games, the 2013 World Championships, and the 2013 Junior World Championships where he was a finalist in the 100-breaststroke. His next stop will be at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China later this summer.

That is great news for the program but not the best as Kongzheng “KZ” Li, former diving coach at the University of Michigan, has been named as the head diving coach at the University of Louisville, according to Cardinal head coach Arthur Albiero.¬† Li just concluded his fourth season as the head diving coach for the 12-time NCAA national championship University of Michigan swimming and diving programs where he oversaw both men’s and women’s programs. Coach Albiero will share Head coaching duties with the storied Li. Li replaces five-time Conference Coach of the Year, Mike Zehnder, who retired from coaching after 17 years with the Cardinals.
