By Justin Renck and Steve Rummage:

A few weeks ago we started a new weekly series that will update you on where the Cards stand with their top basketball recruiting targets for the class of 2015. We release a new post every Monday and give any updates there may be. Rather than talk about every recruit out there that Louisville has just talked to or looked at, we will focus on the main guys that the Cards are going after and have a shot at landing. So you can get familiar with these names and not have to worry about 20 different players to learn about.

With the July evaluation period in full swing, this past week brought us a good amount of updates to the notebook. The Cards have landed two commits so far, and spent a lot of time watching some of the top guards in the class. Enjoy this week’s notebook!

Point Guard

Isaiah Bricsoe – Briscoe continued to show why he is a 5-star PG this week, leading his team to the Peach Jam Championship. Briscoe really is the total package when it comes to playing the point guard position. Arizona and Louisville still look like the favorites to land Briscoe. This week Briscoe had this to say about the Cards to Adam Zagoria. “[Pitino] is a Hall of Fame coach. From what I hear, he lets his guards go. I can see that he runs a three-guard offense, lot of pick-and-rolls and things like that. I just want to go somewhere where I can play my game.”  Pitino spent a lot of time watching Briscoe this week and left no doubt that the Cards are VERY interested in him. Briscoe told Steve Jones of the Courier Journal that the Cards played his style of play, so are the feelings mutual? Most are pegging Briscoe to Arizona but if Allonzo Trier were to pop for the Wildcats, keep a very close eye on Briscoe. -Steve Rummage

With the July evaluation period in full swing, there is always some kind of recruiting news going on. This isn’t going to be as detailed as the weekly notebook that we put out on Monday’s (which you should check out), but it will just be some quick-hitters to update you on who Coach Pitino and his staff (Kenny Johnson and Wyking Jones) watched on Wednesday evening while they were at the Under Armour event in Georgia.

There weren’t any major changes in the past week, but there are still some updates. The month of July should bring us plenty of new information with AAU season in full swing. There are major camps such as the LeBron James Skills Academy, Peach Jam, and AAU Nationals, which are held in Louisville this year.

According to Adam Zagoria of zagsblog.com, small forward Derrick Jones (Radnor, Pennsylvania) will visit Louisville sometime in August. His AAU coach said that Jones will also visit Kentucky, Kansas, Indiana, and Florida in the same month. This is not necessarily his top 5, as he visited UConn last week and says he enjoyed that trip.

Elite 5 Star SF planning to visit UofL soon

According to Adam Zagoria 2015 5 star SF Derrick Jones (Pa.) will visit Louisville in the “coming weeks”. The article had this to say about Jones and Louisville:

“As far as his recruitment, We R 1 coach Terrell Myers said Jones is “wide open,” but that he does plan to visit UConn, Louisville and Syracuse in the coming weeks.”

Louisville did offer Jones about three weeks ago and Myers called them a “good fit.”

“In the near future we would like to go and see Louisville,” Myers said. “It’s a place that he wants to go see, outside the norm.”

Louisville assistant Kenny Johnson has been recruiting Jones.

Jones is rated as high as the #2 SF in the country and Louisville has made it clear they want a SF in the ’15 class. Jones will join Deng Adel and Ray Smith as possible candidates to fill that spot, and while I am still a HUGE Deng Adel guy Jones could very well be the cream of the crop. Jones’s recruitment will be something for Cards fans to keep a close eye on in the coming weeks.
