55 (Episode 7)

55-7

This week…..on 55…..

We celebrated our birthday at CSZ (got 0 cake) and watched the Cards dominate their bowl game after falling a little flat during the basketball game. I really hope you guys love this feature. I really do do  (hehe) this for you guys. If it’s a hit then awesome and if only 10 people see it (yeah right) then so be it. But alas, it is the time of the week I love, 55 time. As we say goodbye to 2013: The Year Of The Card and say hello to 2014, YOTC pt 2. Once again I share with you the 55 most ridiculous things I have heard, had to debate, or just thought about this past week.

1) CardinalSportszone.com turned 2 years old on Wednesday. Once again I couldn’t begin to tell Steve, Justin, & Daryl what this site means to me and how proud I am to call them teammates…..what a way to go out…..sorry Teddy flashbacks

2) 1 more year! 1 more year!

3) Hopefully CardinalSportszone.com will have many, many more years

4) I am gonna tackle football first. Saturday evening the Cards disposed of the Miami Hurricanes 36-9. Teddy Bridgewater threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score on Saturday night in the Russell Athletic Bowl. He threw for a career high 447 yards

russell

5) Teddy come back…..

6)

teddyb

7) He gone

8) I digress

9) Junior wideout DeVante Parker had 9 catches for 142 yards and a TD. His 12th TD of the season ties Ibn Green’s 1998 mark and puts him just 5 away from Ibn’s career mark

10) DeVante come back…..

11) Kicker John Wallace outscored Miami by himself, threw a punch and laid the wood in a very eventful game for the kicker

12) Switching gears this also happened Saturday:

13) OK back to football

Louisville commits meeting up at the bowl game

uofl-miami-300x195

One of the reasons that this game is so big for Louisville is the location. To have a bowl game in Florida is awesome when you recruit that state so much. You can have recruits come watch your team in person without having to bring them up for an official visit. So it is like a bonus visit for those guys. Louisville will have a few commits from the class of 2014 in attendance, as well as a former commit who flipped to Miami.

Miami coach Al Golden previews Louisville

Al Golden

From HurricaneSports.com on 12/13/13:

Opening statement…
“We were on the road all week, and we’re excited to be out on the field tonight and again tomorrow for the last two open practices, and then we’ll great into our preparation for Louisville and the Russell Athletic Bowl. I missed an opportunity to visit since the bowl announcement, but clearly we’re grateful for the opportunity to go to the Russell Athletic Bowl, to play in Orlando, and let our kids experience the sites and attractions and the community in Orlando, and get a great opponent in Louisville. Our kids are excited, I think they’re grateful. They’ve been through a lot the past two years, and they have not been able to have this opportunity. I thought after we talked last weekend, that [the conversation] resonated in the way they practiced. Hopefully we’ll see that again here tonight and tomorrow. They’re practicing with a purpose, they’re excited, and clearly they have a really tough opponent coming up.”

Miami WR Herb Waters Doubtful for RAB

herb 3

The above tweet was sent from Susan Degnan a beat writer for the Miami Herald. Herb Waters has been one of Miami’s top WR this year racking up over 400 yards receiving and 5 touchdowns.

You may remember Waters name in recruiting as he had some second thoughts about his Miami commitment and took a long look at the Cards. Waters being out would be a blow to the Hurricanes offense so this will definitely be something to watch.

Miami video guy (they comin!) is at it again

So remember the Miami fan who said Miami was comin’ for Louisville? He reminded you a few times that they were comin’. Well, he is at it again. This one isn’t as entertaining. But just figured it would make you feel better about how you spend your time. Ski mask?

Fans respond: Which game would you rather the Cards win on December 28?

Russell Athletic BowlLouisville Kentucky

We threw out this question to see what the people thought, and the mixed responses made it worthwhile. If the Cards only win 1 game on December 28th, which would YOU rather see them win? The Battle for the Bluegrass against Kentucky? Or the Russell Athletic Bowl against Miami? Now of course, we would prefer for the Cards to go 2-0 that day, but this just makes for good discussion. First, here are the opinions from the members of CSZ, followed by the twitter responses from you, the fans. Enjoy!

Why I love our bowl matchup

uofl-miami-300x195

Well Cardnation…the stage is set for Orlando and the Russell Athletic Bowl Committee is eager to have the Cards visit. No, it’s not the prestigious BCS bowl we had hoped for our returning Sugar Bowl champs but let’s consider the following. Look at the enemy; UCF ruined our chances of heading back to a BCS and they’ll be heading to the west side of the country to face Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl.  Athlon Sports ranks the matchup with the Miami Hurricanes to be the 9th best ‘must see’ game of all 35 bowls. UCF’s bowl game ranks just one spot ahead of the Cards and I am convinced that’s primarily because of the BCS Fiesta name. But I want to congratulate UCF on their first BCS appearance. I don’t want to be ‘that critic’ towards the Knights like the Cards received last season when they were selected to play Florida.  Now that that’s over with…. Let’s move on to the good stuff.

55 (Episode 5)

55-3

This week…..on 55…..

The initial concept of 55 was: a) There was a ton of news that came out that weekend 2) it’s my favorite number (But Jeremy…I know). I would love to say the overwhelming positive response to it is a surprise, but it’s not. #Humble. I wanted to do something that would show CardNation who I really was. I really think that this does just that. So sit back and enjoy the modern day Mozart masterpiece that is……55.

P.S.-I like to exaggerate sometimes. Once again I share with you the 55 most ridiculous things I have heard, had to debate, or just thought about this past week.

1) The CardFam reunion yesterday was fun as always. Thanks to the Cardinal Hall Of Fame Café for hosting…or putting up with us once again. If you go there to eat I recommend the Ville Burger.

8) No Shawn I will not call it Bootymeat ft AD

9) I also will not put it on loop….you will have to do that sir…..I digress

10) We at CardinalSportsZone.com are proud to announce that our own Steve Rummage has been selected to become a Crystal Ball selector for 247 Sports. Big ups

14) 4* WR Isaiah Ford, 3* OL Kavaris Harkless, 3* RB LJ Scott, 3* WR Cameron Polk & JUCO DE Trevon Young all visited the Cards this weekend. Stay tuned to the site to see how those visits went

Russell Athletics Bowl: Cards vs Canes

russell athletics

It has been made official and #CardNation has got their wish! On December 28th the Cards will play the Miami Hurricanes in the Russell Athletics Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled in Orlando’s Citrus Bowl for 6:45pm and will follow the annual Battle for the Bluegrass that will tip at 4:00pm.

The Canes will come in with a 9-3 record looking for their 10th win on the season. The Cards will bring in a 11-1 record for the 2nd time in school history and arguably one of the best Defenses to ever put on the Red and White.

Louisville accepts bid for Russell Athletic Bowl

Russell Athletic Bowl

UofL’s official Bowl Central page

It is finally official: the Louisville Cardinals will play in the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando, FL on December 28. For the last few weeks, it had been the likely destination unless UCF were to slip up. The more they escaped their close games, the more likely that Orlando looked like the spot for the Cards to land.

This game will pit the Cards against an opponent from the ACC, but we do not know who just yet. The reps for the Russell Athletic Bowl have loved the Cards all season. They were at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium when UCF upset Louisville, and they left the stadium happy that night because they knew that they would have a shot at getting Teddy Bridgewater and the Florida-heavy roster (and alumni) of Louisville down to it’s bowl game.

Kickoff for this game is at 6:45 p.m. ET. December 28 is also the day of the Louisville-Kentucky men’s basketball game in Lexington. That game will tip at 4:00 p.m. ET. So that means it should end sometime around 6-6:15. Then you have just a little bit of time to digest that game and get ready for a bowl game. Regardless of the outcomes, December 28th will be an entertaining day for sure!

Louisville to get Russell Athletic Bowl bid with a win tonight

Russell Athletic Bowl

A source told ESPN’s Brett McMurphy that if the Cards beat Cincinnati tonight, they will receive an invite from the Russell Athletic Bowl. That game will be played in Orlando, FL on December 28 against an ACC team. If you don’t already know, that is the same date that UofL and UK will square off in men’s basketball in Lexington.

The basketball game will tip-off at 4:00 p.m. ET and the Russell Athletic Bowl is schedule to kickoff around 6:30-6:45 p.m. ET. So it would likely end up being back-to-back action for Cards fans.

The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place bowl games for the AAC are all on December 28, so we will have some sort of conflict regardless. The Russell Athletic Bowl is going to be the best option because of opponent, location, and time of day. Even if Cincinnati does beat Louisville, I am confident that the Cards still end up in Orlando on December 28. The combination of Teddy Bridgewater, a team that has been top 10-20 all season long, and the strong UofL alumni-base in Florida will likely make the Cards too hard to pass up for the Russell Athletic Bowl.
