Taquan Dean: Hungry And Driven

taquanotis

Here we are for the final installment of Hungry and Driven….for now. First things first. (Don’t Iggy me) Most of you know I have a column I do during peak sports season called 55. That column will be making its debut right before the UL/Miami football game Monday night September 1st. No set time as of now but starting the next week it will be back to its usual time, 7:55. We will be more interactive, more fun and bring you more info than ever. Also plan on having a few guest writers of 55 during the season. Stay tuned. Also here is a sneak peek at the brand new logo for 55 designed by CSZ’s good friend Tim of @UofLBirdsNest. If you aren’t following him on Twitter, do so now. He is awesome.

Taquan Dean: Hungry And Driven

taquandean2

Went on vacation last week so I did not get to post but rest assured…I have more Taquan Dean. This past week was his birthday. As CardNation showered him with happy birthdays and well wished, Taquan showed off his birthday gift to himself.

Deandegree

So very proud of this guy who I’m lucky enough to call my friend. Back to business though.

Taquan Dean: Hungry And Driven

In this weekly series we are going to let you watch one of the all time Louisville greats, Taquan Dean, doing what he loves to do, play basketball. Over the next 3 weeks I will release footage of former UofL Basketball Graduate Assistant Tim Gray putting Taquan through different workout movements to help evolve and sharpen his craft. In these videos you will see just how special Taquan is and how you may want to train if Basketball is your dream. His hard work, hustle and determination really shines through on the court. This week we will show you 2 more videos. In the first you will see Taquan go unconscious from 3. How many do you think he hits in a row? Make a guess and then see how far off you are. in the second video Taquan shows off his dribbling skills. Enjoy!

Taquan Dean: Hungry And Driven

Taquan Dean

Taquan Dean’s name is all over the UofL 3 point record books. #1 in all time makes (359), #1 in all time attempts (896) and  #3 in all time 3 point field goal percentage (.447). He is the only Cardinal to post two seasons with 100+ three pointers made (122,105). Only one other guy has had 1 season with 100 and that’s Preston Knowles (100). He also had over 500 career rebounds and over 1,600 points. All of those things made up a fantastic Cardinal career but all of those things didn’t happen by accident. Taquan has been playing professional basketball overseas for 8 seasons now. Dean, a New Jersey native, spends most of his summers here in Louisville from what I have seen myself. I have been around Louisville basketball for 15+ years, counting the school and just the area in general. I have friends I work out with during the summers that run in the same workout circles as Taquan. This guy is as nice off the court as he is on the court. Why is he so good?

Summer Thoughts

CSZLogoSkyline white 2

So this has been one interesting summer. I have been swamped with work (a good thing) and we are now in the ACC! I am so excited about that part. The purgatory known as the AAC is over and now it is on to the next chapter of our greatness….the A-C-C

Louisville ACC

It’s so pretty….

Well let’s go over some things that have happened this summer. Teddy signed with the Vikings, Pryor with the Jets, Smith with the Eagles, Philon with the Steelers, Copeland with the Jags and Perry with the Bears. A pretty eventful summer for the former football Cards. We are all so very proud.

The Baseball team also had a crazy amount of signees to MLB teams. We definitely lost a ton of talent

Congrats to those guys as well…..

My All-Time Starting 5 of Pitino-coached UofL Players: Justin

Fans’ Starting 5

Jeremy’s Starting 5

Steve’s Starting 5

Daryl’s Starting 5

After thinking about it for a few days, I finally made my votes on the poll. I checked up on the results as the week went on, just to get a feel for how everyone else was voting. That clearly didn’t influence my picks as you will see. When the question was first thrown at me a few weeks ago in a group text chat by Chris Tingley, it immediately started a debate: Who would your starting 5 be at Louisville in the Rick Pitino era? Everyone has their favorite players that just can’t be replaced by anyone else, and everyone has their reasons why they may have chosen certain players. So here is my starting 5 with a few reasons…

Who is your starting 5 of Rick Pitino players at UofL?

Villanova v Louisville

My friend Chris Tingley posed this question to me a couple of weeks ago, and it is very interesting and fun to talk about. Of all the players that Rick Pitino has coached at the University of Louisville, who would be your starting 5? Now I will say that some players did play multiple positions, and after discussion, we decided to only have each player on 1 poll. So guys like Francisco Garcia, Larry O’Bannon, Ellis Myles, and Samardo Samuels had to be placed in only 1 category, even though we are well aware that those guys (and others) could be on different polls.

Please vote for each position. This will run until the end of the week on Thursday night, so that will give us time to get the word out all week and get as many people as possible to vote on this.
