The result wasn’t what we wanted for the Cards, but here is the full game of the 1996 Sweet 16 matchup between Louisville and Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons won the game 60-59 and were led by Tim Duncan’s 27 points and 13 rebounds. For Louisville, Samaki Walker led the way in scoring with 16 points.
Are you kidding me? You can actually watch the Red-White Scrimmage from the 1993-94 season for UofL basketball! I saw this posted on Facebook by Jon Leon. I was 7 years old heading into this season so these are the guys I really looked up to and wanted to be like. My favorite player of all time, Brian Kiser, was on this team.
DeJuan Wheat was a freshman, and then you have guys like Morton, Minor, and Rozier. The video obviously isn’t the best quality, but it is pretty awesome to be able to watch it at all. Plus John Tong is the PA announcer. This game was at Cardinal Arena. If that doesn’t tell you how far these scrimmages have come, nothing will!
Russ Smith is steadily climbing up the record books at UofL in a few different categories. He is currently 8th in total points, and could climb a couple more spots before the season is over. He is also threatening to take the career steals record from Peyton Siva. Here are some of the updated lists after Saturday’s game.
Career Scoring Leaders
1. Darrell Griffith – 2,333
2. DeJuan Wheat – 2,183
3. Pervis Ellison – 2,143
4. Reece Gaines – 1,945
5. Milt Wagner – 1,836
