CSZ Basketball Recruiting Notebook: 7/13/15

Here we go, the first official CSZ Basketball Recruiting Notebook of the 2016 recruiting season! A few days ago, I posted a preliminary one with just the list of names that would likely be in this first notebook. Just kind of something to get you informed on the players and what was to come. Now it is time to give a little more information on each of the targets for UofL and where the Cards stand with some of them.

If you kept up with us last year, you know that this is still pretty early in the recruiting season. As time goes on, things will begin to take shape and pictures will become clear. Players will commit to schools and be removed from the list, and things will start to narrow down. For example, there are already a couple of players that will be on this first list, and that is likely it for him unless something drastically changes.

At the time of posting this, Louisville has three scholarships for 2016. V.J. King has one of them. If Maverick Rowan commits to UofL and will be in 2015, then that will mean that there are only two for next season, with King having one. So that would mean there is only one more spot to fill. So that stuff will depend on what happens with Maverick Rowan, quite possibly this week.

Steve Rummage and I have split up the list and will each give our insight into those players. Hope you enjoy!

CSZ Basketball Recruiting Notebook: 7/10/15

CSZ FB Cover2

It’s that time of year again! Last year around this time, we began a series called the CSZ Basketball Recruiting Notebook and released a new one every Monday, and that is the plan once again. Obviously it’s not Monday now, but this is just a little preview of what’s to come.

Every Monday, Steve Rummage and I will post a notebook that updates you on where the Cards stand with their top basketball recruits. We are also going to try out a little something new this year, and that will be a separate post from the Monday notebook. There won’t be a set schedule for it. It can be posted at anytime of the day. We will explain that a little more on this Saturday’s Cardinal Sports Zone show on 93.9 The Ville from 10-11 a.m..

For this first notebook, I will give you a vague list of the guys that Louisville is targeting in the 2016 class. As of right now, the Cards have two open spots in the 2016 class, with V.J. King being a commit already and having the third scholarship. However, with the recent news that Maverick Rowan is back on the radar, if he ends up at UofL for 2015, then there will only be one other spot for 2016, unless something changes.

The next few days could be very big for the future of Louisville basketball as two players will be taking official visits. Drexel transfer Damion Lee, who you have probably heard of by now, wraps up a visit to Arizona on Sunday and will be in Louisville at some point of the day. Five star shooting guard Tyus Battle, who is in the class of 2016, will also be on campus and is fresh off of a visit to Duke.

With the class of 2015 wrapped up for Rick Pitino, the weekly CSZ Recruiting Notebook is also on a break right now. We will return with it around the time that basketball season starts and get you introduced to some of the guys in the 2016 class.

One of the players surely to make the list will be Tyus Battle. He is a 6’6 shooting guard from Edison, New Jersey. He is a consensus 5-star player on the four major recruiting sites. Here is how he ranks on each site:

247 Sports: #11 overall, #3 SG

ESPN: #15 overall, #4 SG

According to Andrew Slater of 247 Sports, the Louisville Cardinals have offered a scholarship to 5-star shooting guard/small forward Tyus Battle. He is in the class of 2016 and is from Edison, New Jersey. He is listed at 6’5 and 190 lbs.

Battle visited UofL on Monday and obviously that visit went well. Since April 28, he has received offers from Louisville, Michigan, Florida, Wake Forest, and Maryland. He also holds offers from Syracuse, Indiana, UConn, Ohio State, Virginia, and many more. As of right now, Syracuse seems to be the leader.

2016 5 Star SG to visit Louisville

According to Scout.com’s Evan Daniels 2016 5 star SG Tyus Battle (NJ) will visit Louisville on June 16.

The 6’5 Battle has a strong connection with assistant coach Kenny Johnson as Johnson was Battle’s lead recruiter at IU. It is still extremely early in Battle’s recruitment but getting a stud like Battle on campus this early and having a connection can’t be a bad thing. Follow Tyus Battle on twitter @KidMamba23
