Tony Williams: My Governor’s Cup Prediction

It seems like we’ve been waiting forever for Sunday Sept. 2nd to arrive. University of Louisville Athletic Director Tom Jurich seems to have the modern-day Louisville Cardinal sports departments healthier than ever and running on all cylinders. Our football team is no exception to that assessment, coming into this season ranked in the top 25 for the first time in 5 seasons. In 2010 Charlie Strong was the man who Mr. Jurich hired to put the Cards in this position and he has not disappointed. Instead, Coach Strong has taken this responsibility and ran with it like Usain Bolt did as the anchor of the 4×100 relay in the 2012 Olympics. Recruiting is a large factor for any school that plans to contend for a BCS title, so Strong’s first job was to assemble a staff that could go out and find kids that believed in his philosophy and that could compete at the highest level. Associate Head Coach/Defensive Line/Recruiting Coordinator Clint Hurtt, Defensive Coordinator Vance Bedford, and Offensive Coordinator/QB Coach Shawn Watson round out Coach Strong’s top three assistants along with several other important coaching staff members. All three previously mentioned coaches bring their own unique bag of stripes and accomplishments to the team, usually starting with the phrase “One of the Nation’s best….” or “Impressive resume consisting of….”. Coach Strong and staff have done their best recruiting job ever with the incoming 2012 class of players that they’ve landed. This accomplishment coupled with last season’s returning talent has the city of Louisville buzzing about football more than ever before.

I acted like a kid again and got autographs, only these days it is different because the whole team is younger than me! Still cool though of course, and I hope that never gets old for me. I had to get items autographed for the tailgate trailer that my friends and I have been working on. You will see pics of that soon I am sure!

Media Day: 1 year ago

It was last year’s football media day where Defensive Coordinator Vance Bedford made his famous “Get on the Train” speech. With media day coming up tomorrow, we figured this was a good time to visit this video again!

Football: Cards conclude 2 open practices!

A sea of red, white, and black surrounded the practice field this past weekend as fans came by the thousands to catch a glimpse of the 2012 football team. With the emergence of Teddy Bridgewater last season, a strong recruiting class, and several all-conference players, the Cardinals are viewed by many as a possible BCS team.
