Softball: Cards begin Big East Tournament play on Thursday

BIG EAST Championship bracket

The Louisville Cardinals (45-10, 18-4) have earned the #3 seed in the Big East Tournament, which begins on Thursday in Tampa, FL. They will take on the 6th seeded Syracuse Orange (23-28, 10-12) at 4 pm.

This season, the Cards went 2-1 against Syracuse. They won those 2 games 8-1 and 9-0 (in 5 innings) and lost 4-2. UofL leads the overall series 12-8.

Louisville enters the Big East Tournament 3-4 in their last 7 games. They alternated between a win and a loss with each game. Before that 3-4 stretch to close the season, the Cards had won 15 games in a row.

U of L is led offensively by junior second baseman Katie Keller who is hitting .420 on the season with 12 home runs, 58 runs and 54 RBIs. Senior first baseman Alicja Wolny follows at .417 with 10 homers and 51 RBIs. Senior Jordan Trimble is hitting .387 with 16 doubles, 47 runs and 24 RBIs on the season.

Caralisa Connell (25-4) carries a 2.17 ERA with 198 strikeouts and is holding opponents to a .200 batting average in 188.0 innings. Rachel LeCoq (20-6) holds a 1.69 ERA with 93 Ks in 166.0 innings of work.
