Field Hockey: Recap from this past weekend

This past weekend, Trager Stadium hosted the inaugural Sherrill Brakmeier Classic. The tournament, which featured Louisville (23), Northeastern (21), Northwestern (20), and Miami (OH), began play Friday with Louisville matching up against Northeastern. The game was closely played as both teams were tied at half with a score of 2 to 2. However, the cardinals failed to score in the second half losing by a final score of 3-2. The Cardinals received offensive contributions from senior Haley Jurich (2) and all BIG EAST selection Alyssa Voelmle (10) who both scored.

The tournament concluded Sunday as Louisville faced Miami (OH) in the consolation game. The game started out as a defensive battle with Louisville leading at the half 1-0 with a goal scored by Erin Schneidtmiller (21). The Cardinals came out in the second half and scored two more goals as Haley Jurich and Becca Maddock (19) added to their lead. Miami (OH) scored a late goal but ultimately Louisville won 3-1 earning their first victory of the season.

Louisville (1-1) returns to the field this weekend as they host Davidson on Saturday at 2pm and Ball State next Monday at 2pm. Both games are played at Trager Stadium and admission is free.
