Former Louisville Cardinal Jared Swopshire is fitting in very well in his new home as a Northwestern Wildcat. Although the team is 11-8 and only 2-4 in the Big Ten, Swopshire is making the most of his minutes. Speaking of minutes, he has played 610 minutes this season, compared to 509 in all of last season for the Cards.
So far this season, Swopshire is averaging 9.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 32.1 minutes per game. He is also shooting 43% from the field and 35% from 3 point range. Every one of those stats just mentioned would be career highs for Swopshire if they hold up, except for rebounds per game. He averaged 6.1 in 2009-2010 for UofL.
He has scored in double figures in 9 games this season, with his high of 22 points coming in the 2nd game of the season against Mississippi Valley State (5-6 from 3 point). He had a double-double against Illinois State with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
In their last 2 games, both against ranked opponents, Swopshire has played well. At #23 Illinois, he had 12 points and 6 rebounds in a 68-54 win for the Wildcats. Against #2 Indiana, he had 13 points and 8 rebounds in a tough 67-59 loss.
Northwestern’s next game is tonight at 9 pm as they host #12 Minnesota on the Big Ten Network. We are happy to see Swopshire getting a lot of minutes and playing well. We wish him continued success!
