Francisco Garcia’s clutch 3 pointer beats Marquette!

Another awesome finish in the Louisville-Marquette series happened on February 17, 2005. The 3rd ranked Cards trailed by 11 to unranked Marquette with 5:38 left in the game. After trailing 61-50, Louisville put the clamps on and Marquette did not score the rest of the game.

“We had to win this game with defense, not offense,” coach Rick Pitino said. Marquette missed a 3 pointer with 13 seconds left, and Ellis Myles grabbed the rebound and gave the ball to Francisco Garcia, who came down and drilled a 3 pointer with 2.6 seconds left. Again, it was Travis Diener with the final shot to try and tie the game, but the Cards escaped 64-61!
