Cardinal Catch Up: Tuesday Evening

The fall sports season has now begun, and the teams at UofL are getting off to a great start. Surely, you are aware that the football team beat Miami 31-13 on Monday night. The Cardinal Catch Up focuses on the other sports at the University of Louisville. There are plenty worth keeping up with, and this is a short and simple way to find out how the other teams are doing, without having to read every detail of the games. However, if you want to do that, the press release is provided for you as an option.

*The men’s soccer team (1-0) defeated Maryland in their season opener at Lynn Stadium on Friday night. They jumped up all the way to #2 in the NSCAA Top 25. It is their highest national ranking since being #1 in 2011. Louisville sophomore midfielder Andrew Brody was named the ACC Player of the Week. They will host Cornell on Friday night at 8:30 pm ET, after the women’s match at 6 p.m. ET against Kentucky. Friday’s matches will be a “red-out” for the fans.

*The women’s soccer team (2-1) defeated Ole Miss 1-0 on Friday night in the opening match at Lynn Stadium. They host Kentucky this friday at 6:00 pm ET at Lynn Stadium.

*The volleyball team (1-1) had an up and down weekend. They opened their season with a loss to 6th ranked Wisconsin on Friday night 3-0. However, they followed that up with a 3-1 upset over 12th ranked Minnesota on Saturday night. Freshman middle blocker Maggie DeJong was named ACC Freshman of the Week. They return to action with two games on Friday, both at Cardinal Arena. They play Tennessee State at 10:00 a.m. ET and Cincinnati at 7:30 pm ET.

*The 15th ranked field hockey team (2-0) had a great weekend, starting off the season 2-0. They beat Saint Louis 11-2 on Friday in the season opener, and then beat New Hampshire 4-2 on Sunday.

*The cross country teams also had a good weekend. They competed in the Dayton 5K and the men won their event, while the women finished in 2nd place.

It will be another very busy weekend in UofL sports. Look for another Cardinal Catch Up (maybe Friday) that will give you the weekend schedule.
