Well maybe this one isn’t in time for the whole weekend, since it’s late Friday night. But hey, life happens, and posts are sometimes difficult to get published in a timely manner. But this is still Justin Time for Saturday and Sunday at least.
Cards getting FIU at the perfect time
I will try to do an expanded prediction piece of the FIU game on Saturday morning, so I will keep this fairly brief. I think the perfect medicine for the Louisville football team following a loss at Virginia, is this game against FIU. Louisville beat this team 72-0 last season, and while some people say this FIU team has improved, that was a Charlie Strong coached team that scored 72 points. FIU will start a freshman quarterback who I think will be very overwhelmed by the speed of the Louisville defense. He and the head coach both talked about how their last opponent, Pittsburgh, was built to be big and strong and kind of slow. But Louisville is completely different and very fast. I don’t think even they realize how fast the defense is.
With Reggie Bonnafon not making the trip because of the passing of his father, it is all Will Gardner’s show. Knowing that could give him confidence because it’s his game tomorrow, no one else’s. This is not a great opponent, so you just hope to see the mechanical issues with Gardner get fixed. With the spread being around 27 points, I do think that the Cards cover that. I will come up with a score and put it in the prediction piece on Saturday.
This sure did ruffle some feathers didn’t it? The funny thing is, UK fans constantly bash the Courier-Journal anyway and say they are a paper that is biased towards UofL. So if they already feel that way, why does this upset them? Is the Lexington Herald Leader putting a lot of good stories about UofL in it? I doubt it. So what does it matter what the paper IN LOUISVILLE says?
Now in saying that, I do find it hilarious how upset they got over it. I mean, he was pretty much whining about Coach K coaching Team USA, so the picture isn’t that far off.
But remember, we are talking about a fan base that just sold 500 t-shirts in 30 minutes that celebrated waiting in line for Big Blue Madness tickets. You read that right.
Great day for UofL sports
The weekend is off to a great start for UofL sports. Volleyball picked up two wins today, sweeping both Stephen F. Austin and Rice. Men’s soccer beat Boston College 3-2 on the road and are now 2-0-0 in the ACC. And women’s soccer beat Syracuse 1-0 in their first ACC match. As always, it’s great to be a Louisville Cardinal!
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
My name is Justin Renck and I am a fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That is the first step, right? Wow, what a game on Thursday night. It was over before it even started. In a pick ’em league I am in, of course I picked the Falcons to win. I am not that naive. But I didn’t expect it to be THAT bad. For a while during the game, I was upset to even be a fan of the team. But when it got near the end and they were showing the players with their heads in their hands, obviously upset, something about that made me want to be a bigger fan.
Those guys were clearly embarrassed on national TV, and I felt bad for them. I know they make enough money to not really feel bad for them with their life, but as an athlete, to get beat like that, has to be humbling. I am hoping that flips some kind of switch and they step up and start to compete. But all I could think of while watching Luke McCown and Mike Glennon play quarterback, was that Teddy is just sitting there in Minnesota, and the Bucs passed on him.
Holy Cross High School football
Shoutout here to my Alma Mater, Holy Cross High School. The Cougars are undersized and outnumbered nearly every game they play, with less than 40 players on the team (less than 300 in the whole school). After beating Valley 28-6 tonight, they are now 4-1 on the season. It is great when the little guy can pull out some victories over the bigger schools.
