The Louisville basketball team took the floor today for the first time. The White team got the win 75-72 when Chris Jones drained a go ahead 3 with three seconds left. The top 10 Cards lived up to the ranking without question but there were a few takeaways that stood out:

-Montrezl Harrell is without question a First Team All American! Trez finished the game with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 assist with 9 of those 24 coming off his three 3 point baskets. Yes you read that right. Trez finished 3-5 from behind the arc and looked quite comfortable. But the major thing doesn’t show up on the box score is the leadership. There is no doubt this is Trez’s team and he led well today.

-I can’t imagine a team that will have a tougher back court than the Cards. Rozier and Chris “Mighty Mouse” Jones are absolutely disruptive on defense. The duo also combined for 43 points, 12 assist, 11 steals, and 10 rebounds. Rozier lived up to the hype and Chris Jones psychically looked better and much faster.

-Wayne Blackshear may finally be back folks! Blackshear was aggressive taking the ball to the basket at will. Blackshear finished the game with 20 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assist, and 1 steal all the while looking like he could be a force to be reckoned with this season.

-The play of the Centers left us impressed with Mangok Mathiang and Chinanu Onuaku (Onuaku….wow this kid will be good) but it was the “Big Egyptian” Anas Mahmoud who turned a lot of heads including coach Pitino. Anas seemed to be in the right place at the right time almost all game. Mahmoud, who ended the game with 12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals, and 1 assist, had the crowd behind him and even drew praise from Pitino after the game.
