I am almost positive that many of you, myself included, jumped for joy and pure excitement when we found out that Louisville would be making the trip down south to play in the Music City Bowl against another SEC opponent, the Aggies of Texas A&M. Granted, I think we all would of preferred a spot in the playoffs, but I don’t think the nation is ready for a 7-5 team in the playoffs, I’m afraid.
This is a great consolation prize however (relax I am joking, this is a great bowl to go to!), and it gets even sweeter by knowing the fact that the previous two winners (Ole Miss and Notre Dame), both went on to play in New Year’s Six bowl games the following year. Okay, so a lot of people know that fact but a lot of people don’t know that we have a bit of a history with those Aggies, playing them for three straight years from 1992-1994.
We have played them twice in College Station and once here in Louisville, however, none of those games resulted in a win. Texas A&M won by scores of 40-18 in 1992, 42-7 in 1993, and then 26-10 in 1994, the last time they played. Yes, indeed it will be the renewing of a 3-year miniseries that was decidedly lopsided towards the Aggies, as the Aggies were a national powerhouse during this time and Louisville were just slowly moving into relevance during the last couple of years under Coach Schnellenberger.
Here are highlights from the game in 1994.
Who were the QB’s for these games you may ask? Well for the ’92 and ’93 games for Louisville, it was one Jeff Brohm, who’s now enjoying life as the coach for the (first-time ever) AP-ranked Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. And then the ’94 game was QB’ed by Marty Lowe, who did play in the Arena Football League for 2 years and coached in various places around the nation until he decided to just settle down back in Louisville.
For A&M, the ’92 game was QB’ed by both Jeff Granger and Corey Pullig, the ’93 game was QB’ed by Corey Pullig, and the ’94 game was QB’ed by Corey Pullig once again. The teams were coached by Schnellenberger for Louisville, who helped us pull out of the “dark ages” of Louisville Football and also helped get us a new stadium built, Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, and then for the Aggies, it was legendary coach R.C. Slocum, who won more games as coach than anybody in that program’s history.
According to this history, the Aggies should have no problem beating this Cardinals team. But the two programs are heading in two separate directions, with A&M having QB issues with Kyler Murray and Kyle Allen, and Louisville having quite possibly found its starter for the future (sorry Bolin) in Lamar Jackson. Although I predict this one will be closer than most people think, I believe Louisville pulls it out 35-27, as Jackson has another insanely productive day and Louisville finally gets in the W column in this miniseries!

There is no way the cards beat the Aggies. The sec is a power conference and the acc is not that strong with the exception of Florida state and Clemson. The cards aren’t at the same leve the Aggies are and therefore will be smoked in the bowl game.
