No. 6 Louisville Drops Coastal Carolina 16-2

LOUISVILLE, KY. – Senior Kaylin Morissette scored five goals and Cortnee Daley score four goals to lead No. 6 Louisville to a 16-2 win over Coastal Carolina on Sunday afternoon at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium.

Hannah Koloski also notched a hat trick for the Cardinals, who remain unbeaten at home and improved to 9-1 overall. With the loss, Coastal Carolina falls to 4-3, ending a four-game win streak.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game.  Koloski was the first to score then Morisette found Daley for the second goal with 20:10 left in the first half.  The next 10 minutes neither team was able to score.  

The Cardinals broke the game open with a 6-0 run in the final 10 minutes, taking an 8-0 lead at the break.  Morissette sparked the run with a goal at 10:45.   Then Jillian Balog found Daley for two straight goals in a minute span.  Morissette, Kelli Gerding and Koloski all scored unassisted goals to end the first half, giving the Cardinals an 8-0 advantage in the first half. 

Junior goalkeeper Jenna Stover finished the first half with six saves while Brittany Read finished with just one save. 

Coastal Carolina struck first in the second half, as Sophie Crowther scored to cut the deficit to 8-1 with 28:03 left in regulation. Louisville responded with an 8-0 run to put the game out of reach.  Morissette finished with three goals during that run while Daley, Madison Hoover, Balog and Koloski each scored for the Cardinals.  

In the final minutes of the second half, Crowther scored her second goal of the game, wrapping the contest with Louisville on top, 16-2.

The Cardinals also outshot Coastal, 32-15 while holding a 16-4 advantage in draw controls. Louisville also held a 17-8 advantage in ground balls.

In net, Stover finished 10 saves while Read finished with eight saves for the Cardinals.  Morissette led the Cardinals with 10 draw controls while Daley finished with six ground balls.  Daley and Boyd finished with three caused turnovers apiece. 

The Cardinals will be back in action on Tuesday, March 22 as they travel to Cincinnati for a non-conference match up.
