Asia Durr racked up 24 points for the Louisville Cardinals in a 75 – 49 decision.
The Louisville Cardinals and Chattanooga Mocs stood toe-to-toe at the end of the first frame, each totaling 11 points. The Cardinals struggled offensively shooting a dismal 35.7% from the field. Despite significantly slowing down Louisville, Chattanooga was unable to capitalize, shooting only 23.5%.
Lakelyn Bouldin was the difference maker for the Mocs in the first quarter grabbing seven of Chattanooga’s 11 points. Bouldin connected on a hook shot and a triple from the corner to give the Mocs a spark and an 11-7 advantage. But, the Cardinals scored on back-to-back buckets to tie the match at 11.
The Cardinals used Chattanooga’s turnovers and Asia Durr’s accuracy to make a run in the second quarter. The Mocs turned the ball over seven times, allowing Louisville to. rack up seven easy points. Durr scored nine of Louisville’s 17 points.
The Cardinals finished the half on a 7-0 run to take a 28 – 21 lead into the half.
But, the third quarter was the difference maker.
Louisville came out hot on an 8-0 run. The Mocs were stunned. The Cardinals knocked down 10 – of – 13 from the field and out-rebounded Chattanooga 11 – 2.
Despite a stellar third frame, the Cardinals struggled in the fourth. Louisville added seven turnovers and 11 personal fouls in the final 10 minutes of play. Chattanooga was able to sprint out on an 8-2 run to cut into Louisville’s lead. However, it was not enough to pull the Mocs within striking distance.
The Cardinals improve to 2-0 on the season behind a 75 – 49 advantage.
