The Louisville Cardinals desperately needed a win today and had no issue against Notre Dame. The Cardinals were simply too much for the Fighting Irish, cruising to a 75-61 win on Senior Day.
Louisville was led by a pair of double-doubles from Jordan Nwora and Malik Williams. Nwora finished with 20 points and 11 boards and Williams had 16 points and 13 rebounds. Senior Christen Cunningham went out with 14 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds. VJ King contributed some good minutes today, as well. He finished with 6 points and 10 rebounds and played his role well.
Louisville needed this win today, especially with several ‘bubble’ teams pulling off upsets this weekend. In my opinion, Louisville was in the tournament regardless of today’s outcome, but the win today solidified the Cardinals’ spot.
Although the seniors today weren’t with the team for the entirety of their careers, they each played a crucial role in the bridging of the two eras (Pitino/Mack). For that, and for their efforts, we thank you and wish you the best of luck going forward after the season.
Up next: Louisville travels to Virginia for a Saturday contest at 4pm to close the regular season.
