KG’s Corner: Why You Should Be Excited About UofL Football Again

KGsCorner

Last year was borderline disastrous. It was the type of season that would take most programs back 20 years and take the fans out of it completely. I know I am preaching to the choir about this, but I also think it is important to keep a realistic view on what could have happened.

Enough of that.

I am more excited about this season than I was last year. Even through all the “we are better without Lamar” <insert eye roll emoji here>, I was having a hard time feeding into the hype. It just didn’t feel genuine. This year, I am excited. I love the coaching staff we have put together (we need to find a way to partner patent Scott’s Tots with The Office) and I love the culture they are building.

I LOVE the love they preached at media day. I would rather see this team trust each other again and, call me crazy, enjoy playing football than have them setting crazy expectations. As we all know, these young men are playing football because they love it and to help pay for their education, not because they are getting paid to do so. Their bodies are getting beat up, week after week, just to entertain us for three hours on a Saturday.

We owe it to them to support them and buy into the excitement surrounding the program. Everyone has a time in their life when they need more support from those around them than other times. This is the time when our team needs us. They need us to stop complaining about Petrino, stop whining about ticket prices and start feeling excited again. It may not happen overnight or even this season, but we will be back in the Top 25 within the next 3 years. Bet me.

Don’t be that person that looks back at the 2019 season and wishes they could say they were supportive from the start. Don’t let your own ego stop you from being part of the growth of the program. Be there, in your black, in 20 days and get EXCITED.

You can’t grow if you keep looking to your past.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. Go Cards.
