Women’s’ Field Hockey:
On Friday, the Cardinals took on Indiana in the 2019 season opener. The Cardinals opened up the game by scoring in the second quarter and didn’t look back. The Cardinals left the Hoosiers scoreless in a 5-0 victory to start the season. Senior Bethany Russ had her first hat trick in the game. The Cardinals outshot the Hoosiers 21-2. The Cardinals would return Sunday against UMass.

On Sunday, UMass came into town to take on the Cardinals in the second game of the season. This game was a hard fought battle. UMass and Cardinals continued to fight till the 49th minute when Senior Carter Ayars connected her first goal in her college career. Louisville managed to out shoot UMass 11-4. The Cardinals’ Junior Goalkeeper Hollyn Bar picked up the victory.

Men’s Soccer:
The Cardinals kicked off the John Michael Hayden era with a matchup against Cleveland State. Senior Cody Cochran scored in 35th minute which gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead going into halftime. Cleveland State scored in the 72nd minute and 83rd minute. The Cardinals outshot and held the advantage.

Women’s Soccer:
After coming off two straight wins to open the season. The Cardinals opened the home slate with a matchup against St. Louis on Thursday night. The Cardinals defense held St Louis to only two shots in the first half. Cardinals’ senior Brooklyn Rivers connected in the 50th minute with a goal of her own. The Cardinals held the advantage the whole game.

On Sunday, the Eagles of Eastern Michigan faced the Cardinals. The Cardinals offense took off and the Eagles couldn’t contain them. Emina Ekic started the Cardinals offense that took 27 shots. The Cardinals moved on to 4-0 score which attained the victory.

Volleyball:
Over the weekend, the Cardinals opened the season in the Cardinal Classic. On Friday evening, the Cardinals played the #10 Florida Gators. The Gators jumped out to an early 14-4 lead in the first set and never looked back in the first set. The Cardinals bounced back in the second set and took an early 11-6 lead. Florida answered back and took the set. The Gators swept the Cardinals in the first match of the season.

On Saturday, the Cardinals faced the Aggies of Texas A&M. The Cardinals fell behind early and lost the first set. Claire Chaussee helped lead the charge for the Cardinals but it was not enough to win the second set. The Cardinals wouldn’t be denied in the third set. They answered back with a 25-22 victory causing a 4th set. The 4th set was all about the Cardinals outhitting the Aggies and their 15 kills helped them force a deciding 5th set. The Cardinals jumped on the Aggies and didn’t look back in the 5th set.
Dayton Flyers were the final match of the weekend for the Cardinals in the Cardinal Classic. The Flyers were no match for the Cardinals. The Cardinals jumped out to early lead and won each set to sweep the Flyers. The Cardinals also had this WOW play by Amaya Tillman.

Tonight, the Cardinals face off against the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame in the first game of the Satterfield Era. This will be the Irish’s visit to Louisville. Eastern Kentucky Colonels come to Cardinal Stadium Saturday evening for game two of 2019 Season at 7pm.
