This week was another busy week for the Louisville Cardinals. Let’s recap this past week in Cardinal Athletics.
#2 Men’s Basketball:
vs USC Upstate:
On Tuesday, the #2 Louisville Cardinals hosted the University of South Carolina Upstate. Jordan Nwora went off scoring 28 pts in the first 32 minutes of play. The Cardinals rolled past the Spartans 76-50. Senior Ryan McMahon also had 15 pts. Louisville’s defense held the Spartans to 33% from the field and only 22 rebounds. Dwayne Sutton led the Cardinals with 15 rebounds.
vs Akron:
On Sunday evening, the #2 Cardinals hosted Akron University. Jordan Nwora and Steven Enoch combined to score 35 of Louisville’s 82 points in the Cardinals 82-76 victory. The Cardinals out-rebounded the Zips 48-36 behind Dewayne Sutton’s 10 rebounds. The Cardinals shot under 50% from the field for the first time all season. Senior Ryan McMahon also chipped in 10 points as well.
Up Next: The Cards travel to Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Black Friday to take on in-state rival Western Kentucky at 5 pm.

#8 Women’s Basketball:
vs UT Chattanooga:
On Thursday evening, Dana Evans led the #8 Cardinals past the Mocs of UT Chattanooga 86-37. She chipped in with 18 pts and senior Kyle Shook chipped in with her third double-double in a row. The Cardinals jumped on the Mocs early with a 14-2 run. Freshman Norika Konno reached a career high of 11 pts off the bench. The Cardinals defense held the Mocs to less than 25% from the field and out-rebounded them by 31.
vs Boise State:
On Sunday afternoon, the #8 Cardinals jumped on the Broncos of Boise State early on with a 12-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back to get the 98-82 victory. Senior Jazmine Jones led the Cardinals to victory with 22 pts and Junior Dana Evans chipped in 20 pts as well. The Cardinals also hit over 40% from the three-point line.

Men’s Soccer:
vs South Florida:
On Thursday evening, the Men’s Soccer team competed in the first round of the NCAA Tournament versus South Florida. The Cardinals scored the most goals in this game that they have all season. South Florida gave up four goals to four different Cardinals. The Cardinals defense held the Bulls to only 2 shots all game. Leonard Getz led the Cardinals scoring the first goal and senior Cherif Dieye scored his last goal at home in a Cardinal uniform. The victory was the 13th NCAA Tournament victory at home.
at #14 UC Davis:
The Cardinals went on the road to face #14 Seed UC Davis. Junior Izaiah Jennings provided the Cardinals the spark they needed to get a 1-0 upset. Jennings’ goal in the 62nd minute is what the Cardinals needed to move on to the third round of NCAA Tournament for third time in four years. UC Davis out-shot the Cardinals 18-5.
Up Next: The Cardinals travel to Washington D.C. to face the Georgetown Hoyas. The Cardinals defeated the Hoyas in double overtime on September 24th.

#23 Women’s Soccer:
The #23 Louisville women’s soccer team traveled to Provo, Utah to face the #4 Cougars of BYU. The Cardinal’s defense held the Cougars in check the entire first half. The second half was all about the Cougars scoring at will. The Cardinals fell 4-0 which ended a great season. Great job on the season ladies!!

vs Notre Dame:
On Friday, the Cardinals hosted the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame in a battle of third Place teams in the ACC. Redshirt Freshman Aiko Jones led the Cardinals with 11 kills and five blocks. The Cardinals had 39 kills as a team. The Irish held the Cardinals hitting percentage under 30%. The Cardinals were able to sweep the Irish 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, and 25-14) to third place in the ACC.
vs Miami:
On Sunday afternoon, the Cardinals hosted the Hurricanes on Senior Day. Sophomore Claire Chaussee had 13 kills and 11 digs to help lead the Cardinals to the sweep of the Hurricanes. Senior Melanie McHenry helped the Cardinals on both sides of the net in her last home game as a Cardinal.

Up Next: The Cardinals travel to face #2 Pittsburgh on Wednesday night at 6 pm.
Swimming & Diving:
On Friday and Saturday, the team competed in the Purdue Invitational. The Cardinals men’s and women’s each won 9 out of the 12 events. The women’s team finished with 1088.5 points and the men’s team finished with 967 points. The Cardinals’ teams took first place in the Purdue Invitational.

Football:
On Saturday, the Cardinals looked to get their 7th win of the season against the Orange of Syracuse. Redshirt Sophomore Micale Cunningham completed 11 passes for 238 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Cardinals also got 376 yards on the ground behind redshirt freshman Javian Hawkins’ who alone had 233 yards. Sophomore Tutu Atwell added 152 yards of receiving to join the 1,000 yards receiving club. It is the first time since 1999 the Cardinals have a 1,000 yard receiver and rusher. The Cardinals moved to 7-4 on the season, two games over .500 in ACC, and earned a second place finish in the ACC Atlantic Division.
