In its first game since losing on Tuesday in New York, the number one ranked Louisville Cardinals beat Eastern Kentucky 99-67 at home on Saturday afternoon.
Jordan Nwora led all scorers with 26 points. He added 7 rebounds and 3 assists on 10 of 14 from the field. Steven Enoch had a career high 23 points with 7 rebounds on 9 of 10 shooting. Dwayne Sutton and Malik Williams each scored 11 points.
Ty Taylor led EKU with 13 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Tre King added 12 points and 5 boards of his own.
Louisville was expected to win big and it came out and did just that. The game was never in doubt as the Cards improved to 10-1 on the season. Its hard to take away much from these lopsided games. Eastern Kentucky is a sub-300 team that has beaten one Division 1 program all season.
That being said, Louisville did shoot over 60 percent from the field and made 47 percent on its threes after a woeful shooting performance in the loss earlier this week. Maybe the only disappointing stat for the Cards today was the 15 turnovers. They’re going to have to learn to take care of the ball sooner rather than later, but the season is still young.
There are only two games remaining in the non-conference portion of the schedule. At 10-1, Louisville has put itself in a good position moving forward. Coach Mack is still using a fairly strict 8 man rotation with the occasional time for a few freshmen to get in when the game is out of reach. It was good to see the bench get some extended run on Saturday for the first time in a couple weeks.
Louisville is back home next week before the big one on December 28th. Then, it’s on to conference play for good.
Up Next: Louisville hosts Miami (OH) on Wednesday night at 8:30 p.m. ET on the ACC Network.
