Men’s College Basketball Polls: 2-3-20

Louisville Men’s Basketball went 2-0 again this week. Both wins, Boston College and NC State, were on the road and in convincing fashion. Those wins, coupled with some other teams losing, led to Louisville being ranked in the top 5 in both polls this week.

AP Poll

Louisville moved up one spot to 5th this week. The reason they aren’t ranked higher is because everyone above them just keeps winning. None of the top 4 have lost in a good while which is why no one else has cracked the top 4 in a few weeks.

Baylor, as mentioned prior, is ranked 1st. Coming in 2nd is Gonzaga. Kansas hangs in at 3rd while undefeated San Diego State remains at 4. Louisville, of course, is now in at 5.

The rest of the top 10 saw Dayton move up from 7th to 6th. Duke went from 9th to 7th. After Florida State lost to Virginia, they dropped from 5th to 8th. Maryland made the biggest jump of anyone in the top 10 from 15th to 9th. Rounding out the top 10 is Villanova who fell from 8th.

Baylor got the lion’s share of first place votes with 49. Gonzaga was able to net 15 while a Kansas received 1 solitary vote. With the upcoming schedules for the top 4, it’s unlikely this order will change in next week’s poll unless one of these teams has a major slip up.

USA TODAY Coaches Poll

Louisville’s position in the coaches poll remains unchanged as the coaches had the Cards ranked 5th last week. Their top 4 remained unchanged as well. Baylor stays ranked at 1, Gonzaga at 2, Kansas at 3, and San Diego State at 4.

The rest of the Coaches Poll top 10 mirrors the AP Poll’s top 10 with one exception. Dayton and Duke both moved up a spot each and are ranked 6th and 7th respectively. This is where the AP has them ranked as well. Florida State dropped two spots to 8th which is exactly where they are ranked in the AP Poll. The same goes for Maryland who jumped 6 spots to 9th. The only difference between the coaches and AP is at 10. Auburn gets the 10th spot in the Coaches Poll after jumping 6 spots with a home win over UK.

Baylor got the majority of first place votes in this poll with 19. Gonzaga got the rest with 12.

This week, Louisville is at home for 2 games. The first game is a matchup with Wake Forest on Wednesday night at 9 PM at the KFC YUM! Center. That game can be viewed on ESPN 2. Then on Saturday, the Cards will host conference rival Virginia at 2 PM. That game will air on ESPN.
