Louisville Football Lands First Commitment For 2021 In Aaron Gunn

Louisville Football provided a ray of light for Louisville fans in the gloom over canceled sports and disrupted society. Today, they landed their first commitment of 2021 in 3 Star OG Aaron Gunn.

The 6’3 308 lbs OG plays his high school ball at Union Area High School in New Castle, PA. He had offers from Michigan State, UK, West Virginia, and Western Michigan in addition to his Louisville offer. Gunn is the 622nd ranked recruit nationally and the 30th ranked OG.

Gunn is a very fun prospect and one that is an obvious fit for the Cardinals. We know what OL Coach Dwayne Ledford looks for in his offensive line recruits; big, agile, nasty players with motors that are always in high gear. Well, that’s exactly the type of player Aaron Gunn is.

His highlights are a smorgasbord of defenders on the ground. Gunn is a finisher with his blocks. He really seems to enjoy planting guys in the ground. Even when a guy is on the ground, if the whistle hasn’t blown Gunn will just keep that defender rolling around on the ground. He never gives up the block until the whistle. His motor is just always running in high gear.

Another attribute that stood out is his agility and speed. As a OG in a run heavy UofL offense, pulling will be required. You would think a 6’3 308 pounder wouldn’t be that fleet of foot. That is not the case with Gunn. Gunn is able to get out of his stance quickly and move just as quickly. When his 300 lbs is moving at full speed out in front of a RB clearing the way, defenders should expect they will end up on their backside because in his highlights they often do. This young man is a road paver. I expect guys like Hawkins, Hall, Mitchell, and Robbins will enjoy running behind him because it will likely almost always mean a good gain of yards.

He exhibited excellent strength and use of leverage. He gets low on his blocks and drives defenders. A few times you could see him pulling and pushing guys, sending them flying backwards to the ground. Even when he loses leverage, he’s strong enough to redirect his block away from the play. He’s an explosive and intimidating blocker.

Louisville got a player in Aaron Gunn that can be a devastating OG in the ACC. He’s big at 6’3 and 308 lbs, but moves quickly and deftly for his size. He has power to mow through defenders and the nasty disposition to put them on their backs consistently. If he’s responsible for one defender when blocking, he will attack him until the whistle blows. I see a little bit of former Louisville great John Miller. He is of similar size and has the same combination of power and agility. I’m sure Dwayne Ledford is very happy with this edition to his Band of Brothers. I could see Gunn developing into a guy used significantly in the rotation early in his career and becoming a starter by the end of it. Regardless, it will be fun watching a guy of his size and talent develop in a Louisville uniform. The Cards made an excellent pickup for the first member of Fly Ville 21.
