UofL WBB Week In Review

Good afternoon Card Nation, today is game day. Your UofL Women’s basketball team faces off against Oregon for a spot in the Elite 8. Before we preview the game, here is a look at Louisville’s WBB week in review.

March 21st:

As most of you already know, there was a lot of attention brought to light due to the disparity in the weight room/workout area and equipment the women received compared to what the men got. Coach Walz addressed the lack of equality in women’s basketball with a statement. We wrote a story on it that you can read here.

March 22nd:

Louisville beats Marist 74-43 to advance to the 2nd round of the tournament. The Cards started off a bit slow, maybe nervous, as they trailed after the first quarter. UofL began to find their rhythm and then preceded to blowout Marist. Hailey Van Lith had 17 points.

March 24th:

Coach Walz was named WBCA Coach Of The Year Finalist.

Dana Evans was named a WBCA All-American Regional Finalist.

The Cards erased an 18-point deficit to defeat a very tough Northwestern squad 62-53 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. The 18-point comeback was tied for the 3rd-largest comeback in the women’s tournament. Northwestern came out on fire early, as they started off 5-5 from beyond the arc. Northwestern guard Jordan Hamilton couldn’t miss. UofL was paced by four players who scored in double digits. Kianna Smith led the way with 16 points and freshman Olivia Cochran had a monster game with 13 points and 15 rebounds. The Cards will take on Oregon for a spot in the Elite 8 on Sunday.

March 25th:
