When the NCAA sanctions came down after Katina Powell, a most unfortunate thing occurred. The University of Louisville was forced to disassociate some players. One of those players was Louisville Legend and Cardinal Forever Montrezl Harrell.
Harrell played 3 season at UofL and created hundreds of memories for Cardinal fans old and young. These usually were in the form of thunderous dunks. One memory every UofL fan will always cherish was the mythical dunk in the 2013 title game. That dunk almost seemed impossible.
Sadly, the NCAA forced the university to cut ties with one of its most beloved alumni due to issues with the Katina Powell case. No reasons were ever given publicly as to why. While this disassociation did have an expiration date, no one outside of the NCAA and the university’s athletic department were ever made privy to the information.
Tonight, we actually now know that the disassociation has expired. During a Twitter exchange, Trez interjected with this tweet:

UofL AD Vince Tyra then chimed in and confirmed the disassociation is no more. He asked Trez to “Come on home to the bird nest,” and extended an invite for him to attend Louisville Live!

This is great news! Trez is one of the most humble and good natured people off the court. On it, he’s maybe the most fierce competitor around. Louisville fans still love him and have followed his NBA career to date. To have him come back home for Louisville Live and have Louisville fans shower him with adoration would be a wonderful thing.
Trez is officially a Card again. He always was a Card, though, no matter what the NCAA said. It’s nice to see Vince Tyra with his finger on the pulse of everything and extending a public invite to one of Louisville men’s basketball’s most beloved former players. Louisville Live is going to be a great experience this year at Churchill Downs. It will be an extraordinary one if Card fans get to see Trez back officially repping the red and black and get to show him our appreciation for all he did as a Card.
