Coach Walz: “Chelsie scores the ball well, but her first mindset is getting others the ball. She’s done a remarkable job since she’s been here and I’ve been very impressed. She doesn’t just throw it to the person that’s open, she gets them the ball in areas they are able to score.”
Breakdown: A true floor general in every sense of the phrase. Chelsie has a great handle on the ball and can get to her spot on just about anyone in college basketball. Hall has great vision and is an excellent passer. Chelsie thrives on not only getting the ball to the open player, but getting them the ball on time and in a position they can score. Coming out of high school, Hall had more of a scorer’s mentality, but Vandy needed her to be more of a playmaker and she did both really well. Hall has a really nice catch-and-shoot game as well as an effective mid-range jumper. As a defender, Hall plays the passing lanes with great anticipation.
My Take: As I mentioned earlier, Hall is a playmaker and a floor general. I do believe she is way too talented not to make an immediate impact on this year’s team. I am curious to see how Coach Walz brings her along in the offense and how much freedom he gives her as the season goes on. With Hall’s playmaking ability, I expect to see an uptick in production from not only Hailey Van Lith and Kianna Smith, but also Mykasa Robinson, Olivia Cochran, and Liz Dixon. Everyone knows the tournament comes down to guard play, and Hall is the perfect compliment to all of the scorers on Louisville’s roster. She’s dangerous enough not to be left alone on the perimeter.
