Former University of Louisville head coach Rick Pitino has filed a federal lawsuit against Adidas.
The lawsuit alleges that Pitino was damaged by the company’s “outrageous conduct in conspiring to funnel money to the family of a basketball recruit.”
Pitino maintains his innocence in the matter claiming the he was not aware of the matter.
The suit was filed in U.S. District Court in Louisville.
This afternoon, the university made its standing with Adidas, a little more clear. The official Twitter account of Louisville Athletics, no longer shows the Adidas logo. More is certain to come out in the following days regarding the partnership moving forward. They have also removed from all other forms of social media.

The University of Louisville Men’s Basketball team announced on Thursday that they will have an exhibition game against Simmons as well as a $30,000 investment by Adidas through 2019.

PORTLAND, Ore. August 25, 2017 – adidas and the University of Louisville today announced that they have extended its 19-year partnership with the University of Louisville through 2027-2028. A partner with adidas since 1998, the new agreement replaces the final year of the current deal which was to run through 2019. The Portland, Ore. based company will supply footwear, apparel, accessories and marketing support for all 23 of the university’s intercollegiate athletic programs.
Tom Jurich announced that Adidas & UofL had come to an agreement that would pay Louisville $160 million over 10 years. Ridiculous. Here’s what a few people around Twitter had to say tonight.
Donovan Mitchell is a name you hear on the streets of Louisville, and it is always greeted with a smile. His fierce athleticism and humble attitude made him a fan favorite during his two years here at the University of Louisville. Card forever Donovan Mitchell recently signed a deal with the Utah Jazz and now he has signed a multi-year deal with Adidas. As a part of the “Coming Full Circle” campaign to turn the horseshoe-shaped Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium into a completely 4 sided stadium, the Cardinal Athletic Fund revealed a new aspect of the new section of the stadium called the “Three Stripe Zone”.
In the Three Stripe Zone part of the new section, fans will not only have a great view, but additional perks as well. This includes cushioned chairback seating, increased leg room, and priority on the football parking waiting list.

Today Adidas unveiled the new Louisville Football uniform combination. The Cards will wear this new combo on Oct. 30th when they face FSU. I’m not saying this is the best uniform combo I have ever seen but I’m sure not saying it isn’t! #L1C4
This morning an e-mail when out that said there would be a “significant announcement” that would affect all 23 sports at UofL. The press conference is scheduled at 2:00. This got the whole twitter world talking about what it could be. The natural idea was that it was about Louisville either staying with Adidas or some people thought they may be making the switch to Nike. This seemed weird since there was an Adidas rep on campus and tweeting out pictures of how he was excited to be around the football team and the campus. But people just had their own hopes I guess.
ESPN is reporting that Louisville has signed a 5-year, $40 million shoe and apparel deal to stay with Adidas.
