CSZ Asks & CardNation Responds

CARDNATION

Tonight we took to Twitter to find out what everyone thought about the game & their outlook on the season going forward. You guys know what I think. When we are at full strength we still have one big problem. Droughts & situational shot selection. It has to change because we have the talent to go a long way if corrected. I also asked the contributors to give their thoughts. This is what they came up with.

First off, some of the Contributors thoughts:

@LJThaFiasc0-Encouraging to know that we almost won with 3 backup players and our best shooter going 2-10

@GeneralWasp-It’s still very optimistic. FSU is a damn good squad, we were without one of our more dynamic playmakers, and we only lost by 5. My concern is that the last few games, we’ve struggling in the first 5-10 minutes of the game. We can come back against Clemson. We can’t do that against FSU

@PaigeS_502– I think this team is poised for a great run in March. Q being hurt gives his backups good minutes for practice which will come in handy in the tournament.

@KruegerMania-About what I expected. The Q injury blows but I think Louisville will be fine until he returns, as long as they can run their offense. Defense is fine.

@UofLNunn– Can’t complain about the record when you take into consideration the strength of schedule. I still believe this is a final 4 team.

Louisville vs Virginia: Postgame Recap

20161229_130226

The No. 6 Louisville Cardinals continued their struggles against Virginia with a 61-53 loss to the No. 12 ranked Cavaliers tonight inside the Yum! Center. Like all Louisville vs Virginia games, Louisville looked lost and then appeared to find their groove but not before it was too late.

The Cards entered halftime down 15 points, outscored Virginia 32-25 in the second half and looked better but it wasn’t enough to overcome the first half deficit. No Cardinals scored in double-figures tonight, Snider 8, Adel 8, Hicks 8, Mitchell 7, King 6.

Thankfully for Louisville, they won’t face Virginia again until February 6th, which will hopefully allow for Rick Pitino to find some answers against the patented pack-line Virginia defense. Up next, the Cards face Indiana (also lost their conference home opener tonight to Nebraska) in Indianapolis on Saturday the 31st. That game will not be anything like the one we saw tonight.

Minor setback, Virginia may have lost some scoring off last year’s team, but they clearly did not lose their defensive edge, which has been the staple of all great Virginia teams. Coming off a win like last Wednesday’s, a letdown is possible but hopefully avoided. It was not avoided tonight. Look for the Cards to bounce back on Saturday against the Hoosiers.

Louisville vs Kentucky: Pregame Breakdown

Louisville Kentucky

As if the title doesn’t say it all, the No. 10 Louisville Cardinals host the No. 6 Kentucky Wildcats tonight at 7pm, the game can be watched on ESPN.

Kentucky comes into the game with an identical record to Louisville (10-1) but both teams have had different ways of getting here. Kentucky once again is known for it’s solid slate of freshmen phenoms. Malik Monk, De’Aaron Fox, and Bam Adebayo are the headliners of this year’s group. While this Kentucky team is scary on offense (95.2 PPG), they are noticeably lacking on the defensive end. UK is allowing a Cal Era worst 71.6 PPG, and if you truly think that offense is more important I’ll refer you to the last 10 NCAA champions. Only 1 out of the last 10 NCAA Tournament Champions has allowed over 70 PPG (UNC ’09), my point being: defensive style teams typically best their offensive counterparts.

Louisville @ Grand Canyon: Pregame Breakdown

img_20161115_085017

The No. 14 Louisville Cardinals travel to Phoenix Arizona to take on the upset-minded Grand Canyon University Antelopes at 9pm on ESPN3 and WAVE-3 for the Louisville viewing area.

Grand Canyon enters the game with a 3-3 record with losses to Duke, Penn State and SIU Edwardsville. The Antelopes are currently sitting on a 1-game losing streak after their loss to SIU Edwardsville but they’re eager to bounce back with a top-15 opponent in the Louisville Cardinals.

The teams average similar PPG (points per game) totals, Louisville with 74.4 and Grand Canyon with 72.8. The difference in points allowed is much more glaring, Louisville has allowed an impressively low 57.9 while the Antelopes have been outscored by a full point on average thus far by allowing 73.8.

Rick Pitino may consider this a “trap game” but in all seriousness the Cardinals shouldn’t have much trouble tonight. After the win against Purdue on Wednesday night, the Cards should be carrying some confidence into Phoenix tonight.

The next few games should act as mere practice games for Louisville. After tonight they host Southern Illinois, Texas Southern, and Eastern Kentucky before the game against now top-ranked Kentucky (who suffered their first loss today to a very talented UCLA squad). Nonetheless, the Cards MUST take care of business and focus on the opponent in front of them and not the opponent down the road. That won’t be an issue tonight and the Cards will roll by a score of 88-57. December is here, basketball season is now entering full swing, should be a fun ride.

CSZ partners with Adam Lucas for UofL designs

Cardinal Sports Zone has started a partnership with Adam Lucas, a 23 year old Computer Graphics Technology major from Southern Indiana. Adam has his own website where he displays all of his designs and wallpapers that he creates. He focuses on UofL wallpapers, but he can do pretty much anything. Adam will be making some designs for CSZ to use in our stories and posts, and we are very excited about that.

Be sure to check out our new tab at the top of the home page, titled “UofL Designs”, or just click here. On this page, you will see Adam’s work for CSZ, and the link to his website where you can find much more of his work.
