With all the excitement surrounding the progress of the Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium expansion, I felt like this would be a good time to revisit some interviews with four of the incoming freshman who will never know what it’s like to play in the open-ended PJCS.
This is your chance to get to know a few of these guys before they make their names known the field. Read the rest of this entry

Ryan Day with SBNation predicted what would happen if the top ten picks in the NFL draft – picked Lamar Jackson. While it is still too early to get a grasp on what the draft will look like, I think this is a solid start.

Cardinal forever and current Pittsburgh Steeler, William Gay, has teamed up with former Vice President Joe Biden to put an end to domestic violence. Kelley Evans with The Undefeated wrote a great piece talking about how domestic violence has impacted Gay’s life from an early age. His mother was killed by her boyfriend when William was just 8 years old. On Thursday, February 8th, William Gay was named to the advisory council for the Biden Foundation, which focuses on ending sexual assault and violence against women, among other causes. You can read more about Gay’s story below and find out more about what the Biden Foundation is set out to do.
University of Louisville Football held its annual National Signing Day party at the Brown and Williamson club inside Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium on Wednesday. The party wasn’t as exciting this year due to the first year of the new early signing period that took place on December 20th. Louisville signed 19 of their 22 member signing class on the early signing day. So there were only 3 players that signed on the day of the party. 2 signed early in the day while 1 player signed just as the party came to a close. Coach Petrino read the text that confirmed the signing as his last words to the crowd. The atmosphere was very upbeat despite awkwardness of having 2 signing days. Several of the players that committed early are already on campus and were introduced to the crowd last night. You can view a full list complete with breakdowns of each players that signed right here. Read the rest of this entry

Javian Hawkins, a composite 3 star prospect out of Titusville, FL, committed to Louisville back on 8/7/2017. He’s out of Cocoa High school, where he was also a track and field star. Today, he officially signed with Coach Bobby Petrino and UofL Football.
On the gridiron Javian shows great patience waiting for his linemen to open holes for him, then with excellent acceleration he bursts through those holes and out runs DBs using his 4.36 speed. Standing 5’9 and weighing in at 185 lbs, Javian is very shifty and deceptively strong. Most tacklers have a difficult time bringing him down in the backfield or on first contact. He has a low center of gravity.

Javian also brings a nice and welcoming change of pace back to the Louisville backfield. He compliments both Dae Williams and Colin Wilson well as more of the speed/scat back. However, his strength makes labelling him that kind of hard. He’s like George Stripling with more power.
Javian Hawkins also had offers from Boston College, Syracuse, Missouri, East Carolina and most recently Nebraska along with a plethora of other schools. Nebraska and newly acquired Coach Scott Frost made a serious push to sway Javian in the late moments, but Javian stayed strong and signed with Louisville.
Coach Bobby Petrino got himself a legit RB. Hawkins plays bigger than his actual size. I wouldn’t doubt he could contribute this year, but I would also not be shocked if he’s red-shirted. It is great to see UofL continuing to have great success in the state of Florida.
Check out his highlights below courtesy of Bobby Petrino and see what you think.

The name Adonis Boone, or Dondeezy, is a name that every Cardinal fan will learn very quickly and never forget. A product of nationally recognized Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland high school, Boone originally committed to USF in late July but Louisville made him a priority and went after him hard. He flipped his commitment in September and signed in the early signing period. Boone was rated by most as a 3 star but we all know the coach Petrino cares not for the star ratings. When he sees talent, he goes after it no matter the ratings. In September, Bonne told Chris Hays of the Orlando Sentinel, “My junior year was my first year starting for Mainland and I’ve gotten better and better and I’ve gained 40 more pounds since the end of the season and I’ve gotten faster and strong too,” Boone said. “At the Nike camp [in March], that was my first time ever doing one-on-ones without pads, so then I was like, ‘OK, I can get use to this,’ so I kept progressing and progressing. I learned a lot about playing tackle from the camps.” So I guess this is the reason everyone says he has tremendous upside.
My take is that he will be great on the field and he will be loved off the field. He is active on social media and seems to be the type that is very fan friendly. I like to say that he will be beloved like Lorenzo Mauldin was and still is. Definitely one to watch.
Be sure to follow him on Twitter – @Ajb1_

Dejmi “Dez” Dumervil-Jean is a flat-out beast. For the next four years he will be clogging up the middle, taking on double teams and making running backs change direction. He is the nephew of Louisville Legend, Elvis Kool Dumervil. Dez hopes to someday have his name hanging in PJCS next to his uncles and I’m not betting against it. He isn’t resting on his name but rather wants to make a name for himself. He had offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Oregon, Purdue, South Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Boston College, Cincinnati, Illinois, Kentucky, Syracuse, UCF, Rutgers, Oregon State and others.
