Eight UofL Baseball Players Drafted In 2018 MLB Draft

We here at Cardinal Sports Zone would like to congratulate all the UofL student-athletes selected in the 2018 MLB draft!

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the third straight season, the University of Louisville baseball team had eight players selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft as five Cardinals were chosen on the final day of the 2018 edition Wednesday afternoon.

Junior righthanded pitcher Riley Thompson was selected in the 11th round (338th overall) by the Chicago Cubs, junior righty Sam Bordner went in the 16th round (477th overall) to the Miami Marlins and junior righthander Liam Jenkins was taken in the 17th round (523rd overall) by the Cleveland Indians. Graduate righthanded pitcher Austin Conway was selected in the 31st round (918th overall) by the Chicago White Sox and junior righty Bryan Hoeing went in the 36th round (1,066th overall) to the San Francisco Giants.

Louisville Pitcher Bobby Miller Named Freshman All-American

Press release from the University of Louisville athletic department:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville righthanded pitcher Bobby Miller was named Wednesday as a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

A native of McHenry, Illinois, Miller completed his first collegiate season with a 6-1 record, 2.97 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 66.2 innings pitched and 17 total appearances, including nine starts. An All-ACC Third Team honoree and a member of the ACC All-Freshman Team, Miller pitched in the weekend rotation for the Cardinals in each of the final seven weeks of the regular season and opposing batters registered a .198 average against him this season. He started the ACC Championship title game and earned the victory against Kent State in the elimination game of the 2018 NCAA Lubbock Regional on June 3.

Louisville To Host Michigan State In 2018 ACC/Big Ten Challenge

According to John Rothstein Louisville will host Michigan State in this year’s 2018 ACC/Big Ten Challenge!

This has now become officially official as both the UofL Men’s Basketball Twitter Account and ACC Men’s Basketball Twitter Account are both confirming UofL is indeed hosting Michigan State this season for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

The game is scheduled for Tuesday 11/27 and has the potential to be a Top 25 matchup. A tip-off time and TV network have yet to be determined for the game according to UofL.
