Louisville vs George Mason: Postgame Recap

It certainly wasn’t pretty and it took much longer to get full separation than expected, but the Louisville Cardinals got their first win of the season against George Mason by a final score of 72-61.

Louisville sputtered offensively at times, and while Deng Adel turned in an impressive performance, freshmen Jordan Nwora and Darius Perry stepped up when needed most. Both freshmen were fearless down the stretch, hitting big time shots to fuel Louisville’s late run to put the game away. Nwora finished with 10 points including 3-3 shooting from beyond-the-arc. Perry provided intensity and energy to go along with his 17 points (3-3 from 3 point range and 8-8 from the free throw line). Deng Adel led the Cards in scoring with 20 points.

Red-White Scrimmage Photo Gallery

Last night was a return to normalcy for cardinal Basketball and fans alike. With an expected attendance of 4,000 fans, once again we did not let them down. About 7,000 people showed up to watch the first Red-White Scrimmage of the season. Coach Padgett was very appreciative. “The ovation I received at the beginning of the scrimmage was extremely humbling” he said at the post game presser. The pre-game intros were high energy as you could tell Card Nation was ready to put the past in the past. The actual game was very entertaining highlighted by a pair of dunks on Anas, one by Deng & one by Jo Griffin. Oof. The Red team pulled away with a 94-80 victory over the white team despite the efforts of Gerald cheering the Red team on. For the Red team Deng Adel went for 32 points and 13 rebounds and Ray added 22 points and 16 boards of his own. “If Deng, Ray, Malik and that Frontcourt can rebound like that during the regular season, we are gonna be in good shape” said Padgett. For the White team VJ scored 30 but turned the ball over an uncharacteristic 9 times. Malik had 17 rebounds and Jordan Nwora added 18 points off of 50% shooting including 4-6 from 3 pt land. Overall it was a great night and you can tell that this is a high energy group who can score. Buckle up CardNation, it’s gonna be a fun ride this season. We need and deserve a fun one too. Oh yeah, Jeff Nunn took a lot of great pics, check them out!

Mens Basketball Practice Report From Mr. L

Once again we have a report from practice from the anonymous Mr. L. I promise you all it’s not me. As we head towards tonight’s first Red-White game of the 2017-18 season, here are some things from practice this week to look forward to.

Q – becoming more vocal and a very good leader. Playing well and is a complete floor general. Shooting very well also, and has improved his quickness and defense a bit.

Deng – Best nba prospect on the team according to a lot of folks at Pro day. Very good 2-way player on both sides and will be a game changer for the Cards. Attacking on offense!

Darius Perry’s First BBN Encounter

Louisville’s 2017 4-star incoming Guard Darius Perry was asked about his decision to join the Cardinal Basketball Program. The soon-to-be freshman was asked about his reasoning for committing to Rick Pitino. His response was one most would agree to be true, he loves the development and improvement for which Pitino is widely known. He made comparisons to players from other programs that hadn’t seen the same development as those in the Louisville program, one of those players being Isaiah Briscoe.

KDF Basketball Classic Photo Gallery And Wrap Up

The Louisville Cardinals had 4 signees participate in the Kentucky Derby Festival Classic basketball game held at Freedom Hall on Saturday night in front of a crowd of 4,812. This was many fans first and last chance to see them before they put on a Cardinal uniform.  You can’t judge what type of player they will be in college by their performance in this game. You can, however, judge their personality and character.

Darius Perry was not even originally scheduled to be a participant in the KDF Dunk Contest but when Lance Thomas decided not to do it, Darius stepped up and made it to the finals. He didn’t win but his attempts are worth watching especially since he had help with future teammate (I hope), Donovan Mitchell. Darius played a nice game and scored 22 points in front of a crowd of 4,812 in Freedom Hall. Here are some pictures and videos of Darius. Full photo gallery from the game will be posted soon so please check back with us for photos of all 4 future Cards. Read the rest of this entry

The Ky Derby Festival night of Future Stars was held tonight in New Albany at Indiana University Southeast. The athletes competed in 2 on 2 competition, 3 point and dunk contests. The finals of the 3 point and dunk contests will be held tomorrow night at halftime of the Derby Festival Classic held at Freedom Hall. Louisville commit, Darius Perry, made the finals of the dunk contest after hammering home the final dunk of the night. It was a dunk that Donovan Mitchell told him to try. Perry also told me that Mitchell gave him a dunk to try in the finals but wouldn’t reveal what dunk he will attempt. Donovan and Deng Adel both were both in attendance tonight for the dunk contest.  Read the rest of this entry
