Last year, going into the Governor’s Cup game, UofL was coming off a low. They were destroyed on national TV by Houston. They hadn’t really been playing all that well. UofL fans thought we would just waltz into PJCS, crush UK, and move on to a good bowl; maybe even the Orange Bowl. None of that happened. We saw a 3 game losing streak to end the year.
This year, we feel the same way. The difference is we are justified in the feeling. Bobby Ball 1.0 appears to be back. UofL is rolling right now after 2 blowout wins against Virginia and Syracuse. They played their most complete game this year against Syracuse.
The defense got all kinds of turnovers. Syracuse could not move the ball against them. Jaire Alexander was playing like the best CB in the nation.
It appears as though Louisville will sport the red chrome with the white jersey for their trip to Lexington. #BeatUK
How to Watch: Noon kickoff on SEC Network
Spread: Louisville -10
Last Time: In one of the biggest upsets of 2016, Kentucky stunned the Cardinals after Austin MacGinnis hit a 47-yard field goal with 12 seconds left to pull out a 41-38 win over their rival. The Wildcats capitalized on four turnovers, including the late-game fumble that eventually led to MacGinnis’ field goal at the very end.
Kentucky leads the all-time series 15-14, but Louisville has won five of the last six in the rivalry.
The last time the Cards traveled to Lexington things didn’t start out very good. UK scored a school record 21 first quarter points. Freshman Lamar Jackson entered the game late in the first quarter. Louisville erased a 24-7 halftime deficit with 31 unanswered points for a 38-24 victory. Jackson finished with 186 yards rushing and TDs of 16 and 13 yards on 17 carries. He also threw for 130 yards and another touchdown. Louisville gained 489 yards, including 325 in the second half, and the defense clamped down to hold Kentucky to three points and 143 yards over the final three quarters.
Here is the highlight video I put together from that game. UK thought they had a Yahtzee but they didn’t count on Lamar Jackson…
