If you thought the end of basketball season meant the end of sports until football at UofL, you were WAY off. That reminds me of this, so why not throw it in there?
Saturday is a very busy day in University of Louisville athletics. Here is a quick rundown of what all is going on and how you can keep up.
*Football – The football team is holding a scrimmage today around 9:45 a.m.. Remember that all spring practices are open to the public. No word yet on if today will be held inside the Trager Center or out on the practice fields.
There is always a lot going on in the world of UofL sports. It is easy to just get caught up in men’s basketball this time of year, but there are plenty of other things going on. This is just a quick rundown of what is going on with the other teams. There will be links you can click on if you wish to read full press releases or recent stories from CSZ. If not, you will still have an idea of how the other teams are doing. Go Cards!
*At 23-6 they find themselves ranked 16th and 14th this week in the AP and USA Today Coaches Poll, respectively. They are still trying to get a double bye in the upcoming ACC Tournament. The last two games of the regular season are both at home, and they are tonight against Notre Dame (24-5, 12-4) and Saturday against Virginia (28-1, 16-1).
If you look outside, it is hard to believe that spring sports are underway for the University of Louisville. It is pretty obvious that the winter sports are in full swing. You probably know how the men’s basketball team is doing, and maybe even the women’s basketball team. I will quickly give you an update on how all of the sports teams for UofL are doing that are currently in action.

*Men’s Basketball – After a home loss to NC State on Saturday, Louisville is now 20-5 and 8-4 in the ACC. Their next game is this Wednesday at Syracuse. They then return home to face Miami on Saturday.
It’s been a while, so let’s get caught up on how all of the “other” sports are doing at UofL. A lot of good teams to keep up with!
*The lacrosse team invites everyone to a banquet on Friday night at 7:00 in the PNC Club at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium to celebrate their 2014 season. The Cards finished the season ranked 11th in the country, set a program record for wins with 16, and won the Big East regular season and conference tournaments.
*The 7th ranked field hockey team (10-2, 3-1) lost 3-1 to Syracuse on Saturday. The Orange are now ranked 10th in the country. Louisville returns home to face 17th ranked Boston College on Friday at 3:00 pm ET at Trager Stadium. The game will be shown on ESPN3 and Fox Sports South. The field hockey team could be the best kept secret on Floyd Street!
In the Cardinal Catch Up, I bring you up to date on how the “other” sports at UofL are doing. You know, the ones not named football or men’s basketball. There are plenty of other teams having success, so it is nice to keep up with them. You don’t have to be die hard and follow them as closely if you don’t choose to, but this gives you options. You can just check out scores and records, or click on press releases to read more details. Check out how your teams at the University of Louisville are doing so far this fall.
In this Cardinal Catch Up, the Cards pick up wins over Kentucky and a #1 team in the country. Not too bad!
*The 11th ranked field hockey team (7-1) is off to a great start this season. On Saturday, they took down the #1 team in the nation, North Carolina, 3-2 at Trager Stadium. Senior Mallory Mason was named ACC Co-Player of the Week. On Tuesday they defeated Ohio State 6-3 to extend their home winning streak to 14 games. They will be back in action this Friday as they take on #16 Wake Forest on the road in a big ACC matchup.
This is the Cardinal week in review 4/14/14:

Tonight at 8pm on ESPN2, then from 9-10:30 on ESPNU the 2014 WNBA Draft will be held. Shoni Schimmel was one of only 12 people to be invited to the draft meaning she should be a first rounder. All Seniors from this class are eligible for the draft.
This week…..on 55…..
We talk about huge basketball wins, Women’s Basketball advancing to the AAC tourney final, Sr night and the end of 55? And much, much more. Well here we go. Once again, I share with you the 55 most ridiculous things I have heard, had to debate, or just thought about this past week. This …..is….55.
1) For all that have been asking, Mom got out of the hospital this weekend, your prayers were appreciated and mine were answered. Thank you guys so much…..
2) Saturday was Sr night for the winningest Senior class in UofL Men’s Basketball history….Thanks go out to each and every one of you guys.
3) Here is a personal thanks to each of you individually
5) Tim Henderson: Wichita…the kid got a nickname! Without a doubt the 2nd biggest inspiration during the tourney run last year behind Kevin Ware. This guy was always underappreciated by the fanbase and always worked so hard.
He got in and extended our title run with 2 shots that will go down in Louisville history. Tim, as one of your biggest skeptics the first 2.5 years I wanna say thank you for all you have done. Maybe this year we can use some more Wichita magic!
7) Stephan Van Treese: SVT, SVB, VAN BEAST, Big Hustle. The man of many nicknames for many UL fans. One of the few guys that I can remember who gave his all every single play. Another key factor to our success. You need a hustle play and he will take care of it for you.
A member of one of the most troubled recruiting classes we have had along side of Swop, Marra & Buckles…Siva was fine as we know…SVT decided to come back this year and make it count and boy did we ever need him. Big Hustle, to you I salute you sir!
9) Luke Hancock: Lukeeeeeeeeeee (11 e’s because he is #11, duh) Luke is without a shadow of a doubt the most impactful transfer I can remember with Clifford Rozier being my #1 prior. The guy who single handedly turned around the NCAA title game after we got Spike’d (I still don’t believe it).
and just like that, and a Trezl dunk, in a blink of an eye Louisville came back to beat Michigan for it’s 3rd NCAA title. Thank you to the M.O.P. of the NCAA Final Four Luke Hancock. After losing his dad and playing for our country this past summer, Luke looks like he’s in Luke Tourney form from last year. Thanks again Luke….you will be remembered forever….
