The transcript of Bobby Petrino’s time on Wednesday’s ACC teleconference is below. The Cards have a bye week, but there is still plenty to discuss. He talks about how close Lamar Jackson’s recruitment really was, the win over NC State, preparing for Florida State, and more!

Opening Statement

I’m very proud of our win last week. It was a good job to go on the road in a hostile environment against a good team and get a win. I thought our defense played extremely well. Offensively, we played real well in the first half and then did enough in the second half to get the win. And then our special teams played well. We’ve got a bye week, we’re woking hard on the practice field, and certainly going to take advantage of all the time we get to work hard to prepare for a very good Florida State team.

Wrapping up a wild weekend in the world of UofL sports

I can’t remember a weekend in recent memory involving UofL sports that struck so many different emotions: anger, sadness, confusion, happiness, relief, comfort. In true Rick Pitino hyperbole, I will say that this was the craziest weekend in all my years on this planet. (It wasn’t, but hyperbole can be fun) There was the scandal news that broke on Friday, a huge football win on Saturday, and also real live basketball at the KFC Yum! Center on Saturday as well. It was a back-and-forth of emotion.

This is the first chance I have really gotten to get on here and type something out this weekend, other than posting quick videos that don’t take much time to do. I still hope to post something individually for both the football game and basketball scrimmage. The scandal? Eh, not sure I (or any of us) have enough information to even form an opinion yet, but I will get into that here. So basically, this will just be a quick summary of how the weekend was for me, and probably for some of you too. I will try to expand on these topics soon. Until then, here is how the weekend went…

Transcript: NC State Head Coach Dave Doeren previews Louisville on ACC teleconference

DAVE DOEREN: You know, excited to be back in Carter-Finley. Been on the road for two games. Proud of our team for finding a way to play really good football on the road. Thought we executed at South Alabama. After the first drive they went down and scored, we responded with a big kickoff return, and unfortunately that was called back, and then the offense responded with 28 unanswered points, and then the defense didn’t let them back in the end zone. I thought our response to adversity was really good. A lot of guys played in the game, and I think everybody on the trip played. When you can get four games in a row where you’re backup quarterback and a lot of your backup players get valuable game experience, it’s really good for the future of your program and for potential injuries that may come. Moving forward, looking forward to starting ACC play and playing Louisville, who had a good win last week, good football team that looks like they’ve settled in on Jackson, the athlete at quarterback that can really run and does a lot of things with his feet, and they have a lot of good young athletes. Defensively Coach Grantham does a really good job with their defense and presents a challenge with their pressure packages, and D-line wise, one of the better D lines that we’ll probably face this year, great defensive tackles and long, athletic ends that can run, and a secondary that leads the nation in interceptions. Louisville definitely presents a great challenge to our football team, and we look forward to having them here in Carter-Finley on Saturday, and hopefully the weather will hold off and we can get a great game in. Any questions?

BOBBY PETRINO: We’re looking forward to going on the road and playing a very good North Carolina State team, a team that’s playing really good defense. They’re big and physical up front. Their linebackers really run and tackle. Basically, the same secondary guys that we played against a year ago. They’re also playing very good offense. I think their running backs are running really hard, big offensive front. Jacoby Brissett is doing a nice job of running their offense, being very efficient and accurate and completing a lot of passes. It’s a great challenge for us and certainly one we’re looking forward to.

Q. The environment after the first win, obviously, it was some time coming. Once the team got that, just the locker room after the game, how the team’s responded in practice, and what that’s done for you at this point going into the next game?

Did the Cards really get a bad draw?

aac uofl

Shock. That’s what most of CardNation including myself felt when Louisville was announced the 4 seed in the Midwest bracket. A bracket that will go down as one of the all time hardest including 3 of last years final four (Louisville, Wichita St., and Michigan) and the Cards hated rival Uk. Every analyst on ESPN and CBS last night went out of their way to talk about the difficulty of this bracket BUT after the dust settled and the shock wore off I have come to a conclusion……the Cards got a pretty good draw.
