Last Season: Louisville’s pass defense went from 14th in 2016 to 66th overall last season, allowing approximately 225 yards per game. The average was the worst ranking for the Cardinals since 2011, and the third lowest in their last ten seasons.

The Cardinals struggled a lot in the first half of 2017 due to a combination of injuries (mainly with star cornerback Jaire Alexander) and a lackluster scheme from former defensive coordinator Peter Sirmon. While Alexander was sidelined, the Cardinals allowed 290+ passing yards in four of their first six games, as well as 461 yards and five touchdowns to Wake Forest. They rebounded in their final four games with solid performances, allowing 147.25 yards per game and a 1:6 TD-INT ratio in that stretch.

Nunnsense | Louisville Football Has Plenty Of Motivation And Talent

Jawon Pass

It’s no secret that there are plenty of questions about this years Louisville football team. All you have to do is pick up any college football magazine or google ACC college football and you read all about how Louisville doesn’t have Lamar Jackson. If you keep reading, you will be reminded of how Louisville lost so many starters on the defensive side of the ball and how they will have their 3rd defensive coordinator in 3 years.

They were kind enough to point out that the Louisville receivers, led by Jaylen Smith, are very good. They also point out that Jawon Pass is a highly touted quarterback that should thrive under Bobby Petrino.

However, besides the receivers, most of the talent that Louisville will run out onto the field is unproven. At least unproven as a unit.

There is plenty of talent on both sides of the ball but without seeing them produce as a team, these national publications will not predict Louisville to be anything more than a middle of the pack ACC team.  Read the rest of this entry

Nunnsense | Breakout Players For Louisville Football 2018-19

Louisville Football entrance

It’s seems that every national article that I read about Louisville football starts with ” What will Louisville do without Lamar Jackson.” Or something of that nature.

I have an answer for them – Keep on winning!

Not because a player like Lamar Jackson is easily replaced but I see a group of guys who have accepted the challenge to step up and replace the production not only from Lamar but also all the others who graduated or left early for the NFL.

With guys like Lamar, Jaire, Geron, Chucky, Trevon, James, Reggie, Zykesis and Stacy all gone, you could easily say that Louisville is doomed. Well, I like to look at it as there are plenty of opportunities for guys to step up.

So who is going to step up? Let’s take a look at who you and I think that will be… Read the rest of this entry

Ohio State DB Rodjay Burns to U of L

RodjayBurns

It’s a return home for former Ohio State defensive back Rodjay Burns, as the Louisville native has decided to transfer to U of L.

Burns, who played at Trinity HS in Louisville, made the announcement on his Instagram account today. He played in six games as a true freshman for the Buckeyes last season, recording an interception return for a touchdown against Bowling Green. Burns was originally committed to Louisville in the 2016 class, before flipping to the Buckeyes at the last second.

Before starting his collegiate career, Burns excelled as a two-way star for the Shamrocks, finishing as a runner-up for Mr. Football in the state his senior season.

After sitting out the 2017 season, Burns will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Rodjay Burns could flip commitment back to Louisville

On Monday afternoon, we saw 4-star wide receiver Desmond Fitzpatrick re-commit to Louisville after opening his recruitment back up, which is rare. Could we see a similar situation with Trinity star Rodjay Burns? The difference here is that Fitzpatrick opened his recruitment back up, while Burns switched his pledge from Louisville to Ohio State. Now, it seems like he could be wavering on that decision and realizing that the grass isn’t always greener.
