Louisville at Wake Forest: Pregame Breakdown

Wake Forest

The No. 8 Louisville Cardinals travel to Wake Forest to take on the upset-minded Demon Deacons tonight at 9pm on Fox Sports South. Louisville currently sits as a 3-point favorite, despite being the away team.

Wake is led by forward John Collins who almost averages a double-double with 19.1 PPG and 9.8 RPG and guard Bryant Crawford at 15.5 PPG and 5.6 APG. Outside of those two, there is only one other player on the roster averaging double-figures in guard Keyshawn Woods at 12.5 PPG. If the Cards can limit/stop any of these 3 players, Wake will be forced to use depth it doesn’t have. The Demon Deacons average a solid 81.6 PPG but give up an unimpressive 76.8 PPG. A recipe the Cards have had a lot of success with this season when playing teams with more offensive focus and defensive struggles.

Louisville vs Syracuse: Postgame Recap

Photo: YouTube.com

Photo: YouTube.com

The Louisville Cardinals took care of business today at home against the Syracuse Orange by a score of 88-68.

Louisville controlled the game the entire way, the only spark the Orange showed came in form of a 17-13 lead after Louisville started the game up 11-3. After the Syracuse run, Louisville stormed back and never let up en route to a 20-point de-pulping (sorry) of the Orange.

Louisville was led by 25 points (6-10 from 3-point range) from Donovan Mitchell, 17 points from Deng Adel, Ray Spalding awoke from his slumber to dominate down low with 18 points and 11 rebounds, Quentin Snider added 12 points and 6 assists, and Anas Mahmoud had a solid game of 8 points and 9 rebounds.

Louisville looked like a No. 1 seed today, which couldn’t have come at a better time after Gonzaga’s home loss to BYU last night. If the Cards win out and make a run in the ACC tournament, it’ll be difficult to place another team on that 1-seed line over Louisville. In addition, Louisville stayed tied for 2nd place in the ACC, which sets the Cards up nicely for that coveted double-bye in the ACC tournament.

Up next: the Cards travel to Wake Forest on Wednesday for a 9pm game on the ACC Network.

Go Cards!

Nunnsense: What In The Wide Wide World Of Sports Is Going On Here?

image

Let me get this straight. A former Wake Forest player that later became an assistant coach lost his coaching position when a new head coach was hired. The University thought enough of this guy to give him a cushy job as the color analyst for the broadcasts of Wake football games. For three years, while taking pay from the University, this guy was giving the Wake Forest plays to opposing schools in attempt to sabotage his University? Seems odd but OK. Whatever. Basketball Madness: A Legal Insanity

OZCRQWANXEFCSPS_20140701142336

The 2015 ACC tournament is upon us with games beginning at 1pm today.  While some of us are trying to juggle midterms in between matchups, the cards have secured a double bye and will make their first conference tournament appearance on Thursday vs the winner of game 4. Here’s my thoughts on this years bracket…

tues

Tuesday,1 Boston college vs Georgia tech

2 Wake Forest vs virginia tech

Game 1 Boston College is the bottom of the conference barrel.  While they are currently on a 3 game win streak with an impressive win over the Wolfpack of NC state, I don’t see Georgia tech losing to BC twice.

Game 2 Wake Forest barely won in the regular season matchup vs the Hokies back in January. A loss for either team will be season ending. While I think it will be a relatively close matchup I see the Deacons returning for tournament action on Wednesday to face the hurricanes of Miami.

Prediction: Georgia Tech, Wake Forest

Louisville Will Face 3rd Freshman QB in 5 Games

Photo: Tim Haag/CardinalSportsZone.com

Photo: Tim Haag/CardinalSportsZone.com

When the Cards take the field on Saturday against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, they will be facing a freshman quarterback. In fact, it will be the third time this season that the quarterback facing the defense for the Cards will be a freshman. The other two games were Miami and Florida International.

The starter for the Demon Deacons, John Wolford, is a 6’1 freshman from Jacksonville, Florida. This season he is 87/145 (60%) for 883 yards. He has thrown 6 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. His best game this season could also be called his worst game. In a 23-7 win against Gardner Webb, Wolford was 30/38 for 291 yards. He threw for 2 touchdowns but also had 3 interceptions. But you could also look at the season opener and call that his worst. In a 17-10 loss to Louisiana-Monroe, he was 12/22 for 97 yards with 0 touchdowns and 1 interception.

He was a 3-star quarterback coming out of high school. He also held offers from Mississippi State, Penn State, East Carolina, and more.
