
Welcome back for another edition of This Week In Cardinal Athletics for the week of September 9th – September 14th .
#4 Volleyball (7-1): The Cardinals had a week that started of rocky & got better. First part of the week the Cardinals fell to #2 Texas 3-2 after leading most the match. Then, the Cardinals Cara Cresse’s MVP Performance won the Bluejay Invitational with wins over Rice, Northern Iowa, & #19 Creighton. She was also joined by Payton Petersen and Kalyssa Blackshear on the All-Tournament team.
Up Next: Cards will hit the road to face #3 Kentucky Thursday at 5pm in Yum Center.
Read more: TWICA: September 9th-14th#4/#6 Men’s Soccer (5-1): The Cardinals began a tough week this week with traveling to Ohio State. Alex Svetanoff carried the lead after the goal from Chase Vazquez which gave the gave the Cardinals 1-0 victory over the Buckeyes.
The Cardinals returned home Saturday evening for a match with #20 Virginia but unfortunately fell in defeat. They led in every category against Cavaliers but just not scoring.
Up Next: Cards will look to bounce back in its next outing as ACC play continues at Notre Dame on Friday, September 19. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. ET on ACCNX.
Women’s Soccer (8-2):
The Louisville women’s soccer team (7-2-0, 0-1-0 ACC) saw its winning streak come to an end after a 2-0 defeat to No. 7 Florida State (5-0-1, 1-0-0 ACC) Thursday night at the Seminole Soccer Complex. The Seminoles defense was just too much for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals, returned home on Sunday & got a late goal in the 82nd minute from Emersen Jennings to propel them to the win (1-0) over Virginia Tech. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 7-0 at home and pick up their first ACC win of the season.
Up Next: Cardinals host Clemson on Friday, September 19 at Lynn Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET and it will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
Field Hockey (3-2): The University of Louisville field hockey team had a hard fought match against #1 Northwestern, but ultimately fell 2-1 in overtime Friday evening at Trager Stadium. Sophomore Gigi Edwards delivered her third goal of the season to give the Cards their lone goal on the Wildcats.
The Cardinals then fell also to #15 Iowa 5-1. The Hawkeyes jumped out to 4-0 lead after the 1st period & the Cardinals just couldn’t recover. Annabel Sep scored the Only Cardinal goal.
Up Next: The Cardinals host Ohio State on Friday at 3pm before traveling to Philadelphia to play St Joseph on Sunday 11am.
