UofL announced the Big East opponents and sites yesterday for the upcoming men’s basketball season. Regardless of where the games are, the Big East schedule is always a tough one. Now with 15 teams instead of 16, teams will play 4 teams twice, and 10 teams once. For the Cards, they will face Notre Dame, Seton Hall, South Florida, and Syracuse twice.
Here is how the rest of the home and away breakdown will be:
Home: Cincinnati, Marquette, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Providence, St. John’s, Seton Hall, South Florida, Syracuse
Away: UConn, DePaul, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Rutgers, Seton Hall, South Florida, Syracuse, Villanova
According to Drew Deener, who does TV play-by-play for the Cards, Stephan Van Treese will be staying at UofL and not transferring. If this is true, it will give the Cards even more depth in the front court, as Van Treese can play both the Power Forward and Center positions.
It is almost that time of year again for the Cardinal Caravan! Fans will have 5 opportunities in July to see and interact with players and coaches from UofL teams, including Peyton Siva, Gorgui Dieng, Russ Smith, Women’s Basketball Coach Jeff Walz, and Assistant Football Coach Kenny Carter.
From uoflsports.com: “This annual tour is a terrific opportunity for our coaches and staff to interact with our loyal fan base,” said Tom Jurich, Vice President and Director of Athletics at U of L. “We are coming off a terrific all-around year for our athletic program with a school-record 10 BIG EAST titles and this is our way of reaching out to the loyal Cardinal supporters who had an impact on our record-breaking season for our department. We enjoy reaching out and extending our gratitude across the Commonwealth.”

Stephan Van Treese, a 6’8 Junior from Indianapolis, IN, was granted his release today and will leave the UofL program. In 52 career games with the Cards, he averaged 2.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Although those are not big numbers, no one ever questioned his effort when he was on the floor.
Rick Pitino and the University of Louisville received HUGE news this morning when 4* PF Montrezl Harrell committed to play for the Cards next season. Harrell will be a freshman with 4 years eligibility. Harrell adds depth at the one spot that UL needed it, which is the PF/C spot. This will also open up the door for Angel Nunez to float around more at the 3/4 positions. The addition of Harrell should make the cards pre-season #1 and no lower than #2 but as we all know when it comes to ranking you never know. Harrell’s game is described in one word: ANGRY and that’s exactly what the Cardinals needed. #CardSwag
