Louisville MBB Recap: Cards Crush Orange

Syracuse’s night unraveled slowly and then all at once, as Louisville pulled away for a 77–62 win that felt decided well before the final horn. After hanging around early, the Orange simply couldn’t keep pace with the Cardinals’ perimeter shooting or offensive balance. Syracuse went the final 2:14 without a point, a quiet ending that mirrored a night where timely offense was hard to come by.

The numbers tell the story. Syracuse shot 40-percent from the field but managed just 4-of-19 from three-point range, never finding consistency from deep. Naithan George led the Orange with 16 points, and Donnie Freeman battled inside for 11 rebounds, but the offense stalled whenever momentum seemed possible. The Orange’s last field goal came on George’s three with 1:57 left. After that, it was empty possessions and defensive rebounds going the other way.

Louisville, meanwhile, was comfortable and in control. The Cardinals knocked down 14 three-pointers at a 40-percent clip and turned nine Syracuse turnovers into 12 points. Ryan Conwell paced Louisville with 23 points, while J’Vonne Hadley added 19 on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting, including a perfect night from beyond the arc. When Hadley buried a three at the 2:14 mark, pushing the lead to 77–57, it effectively slammed the door.

The Cardinals had a nice defensive effort to match their offensive output. They’re hoping to carry that momentum into the weekend, where they will take on Miami in Coral Gables.
