AAU Nationals to be held in Louisville

Last night Evan Daniels of broke the news that the AAU Basketball Nationals will be held in Louisville Ky starting this summer. For the last 10 years this event has been held in Orlando Florida at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex. This is huge news for the city of Louisville and the surrounding areas for a number of reasons.

1. This will bring over 3 Million Dollars to the city each year.

2. Schools like Bellarmine, EKU, and others will be able to recruit much easier and more cost efficient.

3. For Louisville and uk this will event brings in the Elite basketball players in the nation for an entire week.

I’m not sure everyone quite grasp the magnitude of this event being in Louisville but just to put it in perspective: Nearly every elite caliber program in the Nation will have a Head Coach or representative at this event for most of that week. Many of the players on the UofL and uk rosters have competed in this event including: Montrezl Harrell, Chane Behanan, Wayne Blackshear,  Julius Randle, Dakari Johnson and Andrew and Aaron Harrison.

I truly believe this event will become even larger than it is now because this area will embrace this event like none other. The AAU Nationals is where the elite come to play and now that event is in Louisville but what else do you expect when you live in the basketball capital of  the country 🙂

Steve Jones of the Courier Journal has an excellent story on this that can be read HERE
