Hey CardFam! It’s been a long month but I finally have had some time these past few days to catch up.
We ended up advancing far into the Eurocup championships, beating some really tough teams. I got a chance to play against Juan Palacios and his team, Karsiyaka in Izmir, Turkey, winning both games with a score differential of +10.
We then advanced to the final four playing against Kazan, a Russian team, and beat them twice by a differential of 15 points! For the Eurocup championship game we went up against another Russian team, Khimki. Unfortunately we lost both times. They were a really strong team with some great players. Overall we ended the season second in Eurocup which was a first in the history of Gran Canaria and it is some thing the city is really proud of. Our team also traveled farther than any other team in the history of Eurocup. Combining all our trips into one would have sent us around the world more than once!
Personally, I was very happy we made it to the championships especially since it was my first year ever to participate in Eurocup. I was also blessed to be honored with a selection to the 2nd team all Eurocup!
We can now turn our attention to the Spanish ACB league. ACB is the most competitive league in Europe where players like Pau Gasol got his start and Nikola Mirotic played last year. There are a total of 18 teams in the league and we play each other twice during the season from October till May. The top eight teams after the first 17 games qualify for the Copa (or Cup) which was played in February here in Gran Canaria. At the end of the season, the top 8 teams after 34 games qualify for the league tournament. We are currently sitting in 8th place in the league battling for a place in the tournament.
The next two games will be huge in determining if we make it. We won a very important game on Sunday against Valencia (Luke Harongody plays for them). Now we have 2 games next week which will be a big deciding factor in the playoff picture!
Another post coming in a couple weeks!
