Coach Rick Pitino posted something extremely important in his blog today. Something that I think we, as fans, have forgotten in the midst of the scandal. BASKETBALL SEASON is ONE WEEK AWAY!!
( Coach Rick Pitino 2015 – 2016 Preview )
Yes, despite efforts to derail the University of Louisville’s Basketball program, it appears the show will go on as expected. The CARDS open up with an at home exhibition on Sunday, November 1st at 1:30PM.
What better way to open up the season than welcoming Coach Scotty Davenport and his Bellarmine Knights to the KFC Yum! Center??
In Coach Pitino’s post, he discusses his excitement for the season. According to Coach Pitino, this team is going to be explosive on offense. But, he notes, we have to continue being tough on defense like in years past.
After two Red-White Scrimmages, I think it’s safe to say we have quite a few offensive weapons. Fifth year transfers Trey Lewis and Damion Lee give Louisville the strength needed in the back court. Add Q into that mix and the CARDS are an offensive threat. But that begs the question, should Coach Pitino play small??
On the flip side, the CARDS return veteran Mangok Mathiang, Matz Stockman, who Coach Pitino says has improved tremendously, Chinanu Onuaku, Anas Mahmoud and Jaylen Johnson. Newcomers Ray Spalding, Donovan Mitchell (who can play the two or three) and Deng Adel are expected to add a lot of athleticism and a lot of point for the CARDS.
So who do I think will be the starting five??
1. Quentin Snider
2. Damion Lee
3. Deng Adel
4. Jaylen Johnson
5. Chinanu Onuaku
This year’s team has something we were missing last year: depth.
Coming off the bench, the CARDS have Trey Lewis and Donovan Mitchell, Mangok and Mahmoud. We have CARDS fan favorite, David Levitch, who Coach Pitino credits for stepping up in the off season. He says he’s no longer a guy you put in when you’re up 20. The CARDS also have St. John’s transfer, Jay Henderson, who adds depth to the guard spot. And how can we forget Dillon Avare?? I dare someone to foul and put Avare on the line!!
After a much too long off season, I’m ready to see the CARDS back in action.
If you can’t make it out to the Yum! Center, you can catch the game live on WAVE 3.
Howdy! I could have sworn I’ve been to this blog before but after going
through some of the posts I realized it’s new to me.
Anyhow, I’m definitely delighted I found it and I’ll be bookmarking it and checking back frequently!
