In an extremely lopsided game, the Louisville Cardinals came away with a 40 point victory over the Southeast Missouri Redhawks. At the end of four quarters, Louisville outscored Southeast Missouri 80-40.

Here are a few takeaways from the matchup:

Louisville had four players notch double-figures

Even more impressive… None of which are named Asia Durr or Myisha Hines-Allen. Jazmine Jones led the Cardinals with 12 points. Jones added 4 assists, 4 rebounds and zero turnovers in 20 minutes. Freshman Dana Evans followed up with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Kylee Shook picked up where she left off last year, picking up 11 points and 4 rebounds. Rounding out the top scorers is Bianca Dunham who racked up 10 points and 5 rebounds.

Louisville has depth

The Cardinals tallied 36 points from its starting five. The remaining 44 points came off the bench. It’s comforting knowing Louisville has points on the bench when the starting five are having an off night.

Louisville isn’t without its flaws

While the Cardinals did not see anyone foul out, head coach Jeff Walz pointed out his team struggles with fouling.

“We like to score in transition, but the problem is we foul so much it kills the flow of the game. We’ve got to be able to defend without fouling.”

Coach Walz also emphasized the importance of holding on to the ball. The Cardinals turned the ball over 19 times. Lucky for Louisville, the Redhawks were only able to pick up 12 points off the turnovers.

Louisville played with a lot of energy

“We came out with a lot of energy,” Myisha Hines-Allen told the media. “Everything was flowing and everyone was ready to start the season off right.

Myisha wasn’t kidding!! In the first quarter, Louisville forced nine Southeast Missouri turnovers, while limiting the Redhawks to only 5 points. At the half, Southeast Missouri had only 11 points to Louisville’s 42.

On the game, Louisville dished out 22 assists on 29 made field goals. The Cardinals also grabbed 44 rebounds and 10 steals. Louisville converted 28 Redhawks turnovers into 33 points.
