UofL picked up a big time player who may start from day 1 in 4 Star JUCO S Marlon Character, Jr. Character is originally from Atlanta, GA and played this past season at Northwest Mississippi Community College.

The 6’1 195 lbs S, who was primarily recruited by Lorenzo Ward, chose UofL over West Virginia and South Carolina.

Character is a versatile S who can play deep or in the box. As a deep S, he does a great job of reading QBs eyes and getting to where the ball will be thrown to either intercept it, break the pass up, or lay a big hit on the WR.

Speaking of big hits, Character delivers them. I saw a few times in his highlights good, clean, monstrous hits on WRs. He really crushed them. He’s also big and strong enough to cover TEs if necessary.

Character’s ball skills are excellent. He rarely drops interceptions. High pointing the ball is something he excels at. He often out leaps the WRs to take the ball right out of the air. He often can wait to make a break on the route of a WR because of his excellent closing speed. This makes it hard for QBs to manipulate him with their eyes.

Character excels playing in the box and stopping the run. He’s an excellent form tackler and his speed and especially quickness, allow him to get in the backfield quickly for tackles for loss. He’s also adept at blitzing the QB.

Character also has played some CB and all the skills he showed as a S showed up there as well. I feel he will definitely be a S, but you could also see him line up on the outside at CB from time to time.

Bobby Petrino added an immediate impact S. He reminds me a lot of James Sample and we all know how well James Sample worked out. Marlon Character, Jr will terrorize QBs, WRs, and RBs in the ACC. I think UofL fans will love him.
