Chestnut Hill, MA — The No. 4 Louisville Cardinals converted 20 Boston College turnovers into 35 points in an 87 – 52 blowout. But, the game was not all smooth sailing for the Cardinals.
The Louisville Cardinals were down 11 points at the end of the first quarter. Shooting only 33% and losing the battle on the board, Louisville could not pull within striking distance. Georgia Pineau was the x-factor for Boston College. The sophomore knocked down 11 points, seemingly scoring at will. The Cardinals also struggled to stop Milan Bolden-Morris who connected on two triples.
However, the Eagles slipped up and let both Myisha Hines-Allen and Asia Durr heat up in the second period. The Cardinals chipped away at the 11 point lead as Durr connected on a triple and Sam Fuehring scored on a jump shot. But, the Eagles fired back as Martina Mosetti scored on an easy layup with 5:40 remaining in the half. Louisville took a much needed timeout.
Out of the timeout, the Cardinals held Boston College scoreless for the remainder of the half, while going on to score 14 unanswered points. For the 26th time this season, Louisville held an opponent to single digits with the Eagles grabbing only four points.
At the half, Louisville had turned an 11 point deficit into a five point lead.
Boston College would only come within five points the remainder of the match. The Eagles struggled, as they have all season, with double-digit, unforced turnovers.
Despite a decent third period effort on 44% shooting, the Eagles were outscored 35 – 19. Louisville could not miss, going 11-of-14 from the field, a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc. It’s no surprise that Durr and Hines-Allen led the Cardinals in the third period with a combined 14 points. Louisville also saw high scoring from Arica Carter with six points, Jazmine Jones with six points and Sam Fuehring with five points.
After a monstrous third frame, there was no hope for the worn down Eagles. Even with Louisville’s bench in the game, the Eagles were outscored 20 – 6 in the final 10.
Kylee Shook and Bianca Dunham sealed the deal for the Cardinals. Shook could not be stopped as she knocked down 11 points in 16 minutes, while Dunham added seven points.
In the end, Louisville overwhelmed Boston College in an 87 – 52 decision.
Top Scorers:
The Cardinals had six players score double-digits: Asia Durr paced Louisville with 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Sam Fuehring knocked down 14 points, while also grabbing seven boards and three assists. While Myisha Hines-Allen did not grab a double-double on the outing, she did provide a huge advantage for the Cardinals grabbing 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Kylee Shook and Arica Carter were on fire from beyond the arc, each grabbing 11 points and combining for six of Louisville’s 10 triples. Rounding out the top scorers for the Cardinals was Jazmine Jones who notched 10 points.
Although she went scoreless, freshman Dana Evans led all players in assists with eight on the evening.
For the Eagles, Georgia Pineau led the way with 22 points and seven boards.
