Weekend Softball Wrap-Up

This was a busy weekend for the softball team in Raleigh, North Carolina. They competed in the ACC / Big Ten challenge against Northwestern & Ohio State. Here is how they did.

Friday:

Northwestern Game 1:

This game was a crazy back and forth game. The Cards were down 6-2 with when the comeback led by seniors Jena Jordan & Jamie Soles. Morgan Hensley pitched very well as well. She pitched 7 innings only allowing 3 runs. Caitlin Ferguson was 3-5 at the plate with 2 RBI’s. Jena Jordan hit a three run home run in the top of the 7th to tie the score.

Cards: 7  Northwestern: 6

Northwestern Game 2:

In this game the offense didn’t along until the bottom of the forth. The Cards started with a lead off single by junior Madison Cousineau. Jamie Soles hit a single to score Maddy Newman replaced Madison as a pinch runner. Freshman Danielle Watson pitched a complete game only allowing two runs on three hits gaining her fourth win of the season. Coach Pearsall was very pleased how the team preformed in both games.

Cards: 3 Northwestern: 2

Saturday:

Ohio State Game 1:

This game was very hard defeat for the cards in extra innings. Sophomore Caitlin Ferguson went 3-4 with 2 runs and an RBI. Junior Megan Hensley hit a two run home as well. Danielle Watson pitched 1.2 innings allowing three runs while only striking out one picking up her first loss of the season.

Cards: 5 Buckeyes: 6

Sunday:

Ohio State Game 2:

The offense only produced three hits in a 4-0 defeat against the Buckeyes. Freshman Danielle Watson pitched four innings giving up one run on three hits while picking up her second loss of the game.  The Cards had opportunities to gets runs on the board but just pushed them across. Coach Pearsall loved the effort in the first match up with the Buckeyes on Saturday but wasn’t happy with Sunday’s Performance.

Cards: 0 Buckeyes: 4

Up Next For The Cards: Cards travel back to Orlando for D-9 Citrus Classic.
