Down 28-18, it felt as though the Cards had dug themselves another hole too deep to climb out of. Thanks to the efforts of Snider, Spalding, Sutton, Adel and Perry, the Cards fought back and earned a huge road victory by a final score of 75-68 over Virginia Tech.
This win served many purposes. The Cards climbed the ACC standings with the win, earned a much needed victory on the road, persevered through a tumultuous situation in a hostile environment and threw their names back into the NCAA tournament (for now).
Louisville was led by Quentin Snider’s 22 points (7 threes), 6 assists and 6 rebounds. Dwayne Sutton earned his first start and made the most of it with 17 points and 11 rebounds to go along with stellar hustle and defense. Sutton was the X-factor today. Ray Spalding had some monstrous dunks within his 12 point and 7 rebound performance. Deng Adel didn’t shoot the ball well today..at all. However, Deng had a huge impact on the game with a near triple-double of 10 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Darius Perry also played some great defense with a lot of his usual intensity and hit a huge 3 late in the game. He finished with 8 points.
This win couldn’t have come at a better time. It’s been a long week, the Cards desperately needed a win, and this placed the Cards back in the talk for the 4-seed in the ACC tournament. Great win, brag about it all day.
Up next: the Cards host Virginia on March 1st at 8pm.
